In previous Xero models, even from shoe to shoe, the insole varied from a more traditional EVA to a more spongy memory foam feeling option. In the HFS, the insole foam not only is more firm but features drainage ports along the bottom.

Don’t judge that I got the boring gray ones instead of the fun colors! Why You Should Go Barefoot on Runs The Xero Shoes Prio features also features an arrow construction through the forefoot, mid-foot, and heel, and this model has forefoot grooves for additional forefoot maneuverability.

One of the standout features of these shoes is their remarkable lightweight design. From the moment I put them on, I felt like I was walking on air. The reduced weight of the shoes made them incredibly comfortable to wear, even for extended periods. Whether I'm out running errands, going for a walk, or simply standing for a long time, these shoes have proven to be a comfortable and reliable choice. Matt: The HFS provides a minimal and highly flexible ride. The 3.5 mm insole and 5mm outsole provides excellent ground feel while still maintaining protection. This does require softer and more careful landings as all stones and obstacles on the ground can be felt. Weirdly, the insole still provides a mildly soft underfoot sensation while walking, but this is not a cushioned shoe at all. The sole flexes in all directions, letting your foot do what it wants to do. This makes it somewhat adaptable to a variety of uses. I have used the Xero HFS on a variety of surfaces, but found that works best on the road and indoor areas. The outsole grip is fantastic even on wet pavement and there is no wear on the outsole after 20 miles of running and many more walking.

However, after more than a mile or two on pavement, it feels like a bit too little underfoot, even for someone who has trained next to barefoot for several years.

Huarache-inspired design — the adjustable instep and midfoot straps are not just eye-catching but functional, giving you a secure and comfortable fit. Performance: B+ (Excellent ground feel and outsole flexibility, feels very natural at faster paces, but isn't protective enough for me to use for runs >1 hour) This barefoot shoe delivers on the full-range of natural feeling for those runners who demand natural locomotion

The Xero Shoes 360 model has a multi-directional arrow tread on the forefoot and heel with an additional circle tread at the base of the big toe. The one pro about all of the Xero Shoes compared in this article is that their price points are all somewhat in the same ballpark. Unlike other barefoot shoe brands out there, Xero Shoes tends to have fairly cost-efficient shoes. At the moment, I feel like every time I get a new running shoe; it becomes my new favorite. And today’s shoe is no different. The Xero Shoes HFS is the closest to barefoot I’ve felt in any enclosed upper shoe yet. If you want to remove the insole or use your own custom insole, then you should be fine doing so in most Xero Shoes. A majority of Xero Shoes come with removable insoles and finished internal constructions. Takeaway Thoughts Light weight — so light, in fact, you could forget you have them on. A women’s 37.5 is about 184 grams (each). For the Xero Shoes HFS, its construction does a good job at lasting a while when it’s used for lifting and running. One thing to note, if you’re running outside, I’d suggest avoiding puddles to ensure the upper last longer. Xero Shoes 360 Vs Xero Shoes Prio Vs Xero Shoes HFS Sizing Second, the upper on the Xero Shoes Zelen is also a perk of this model for cross-training. The upper on this shoe breathes well, has a nice clean appearance to it, and its durability is overall pretty strong for the varied demands of most cross-training workouts.

Although the Prio is a little cheaper than the HFS, they’re both relatively inexpensive for the features they offer. In terms of comfort, the Xero HFS barefoot running shoes receive high marks. The shoe’s flexible design allows for a comfortable fit. The shoe’s breathable upper helps to keep feet cool and dry, making them a good choice for hot weather running. The Xero Shoes 360, Prio, and HFS each have their lists of pros and cons. If you can dial in how you plan to train in your model, then you can better select the shoe that fits your needs best. From roads to trails and into the gym, the Xero HFS is a consistent, versatile barefoot trainer that aims to bring out the best in your feet. The highlight of this minimalist shoe is the ultra-flexible construction that comfortably conforms to the natural movements of your feet and provides an experience that the manufacturer aptly dubs "barefoot plus." The supple, proprietary rubber of these thin, 5.5mm shoes allows your toes to flex and grip naturally, while a spacious mesh forefoot enables them to spread and splay for improved stability. All of this will likely appeal to the diehard barefoot crowd, but for those just dipping their toes into minimalist footwear, the HFS also includes a 3mm high-density EVA insole to provide a bit of cushioning to ease that transition. From its airy fit to its free range of motion, this barefoot shoe offers the best in lightweight running performance DISCLOSURE: For the purpose of review, I’d like to thank Xero Shoes for providing me with a pair of HFS shoes. No additional compensation was provided, and the review process objective over the course of a normal life cycle of my daily training shoes. The lightweight nature of the shoes also adds to their versatility. I've used them for a variety of activities, from casual outings to light workouts, and they've performed admirably in every situation. The breathable materials and well-cushioned insoles make them a fantastic choice for all-day wear. While the width of the shoe is certainly improved from previous models such as the Prio, the toe box still seems mildly short, leading to discomfort and some light callusing on the second toe, but certainly not enough to compromise the nail beds on either foot.
