The guidance and encouragement of parents and teachers is recommended if the child is to complete the course and perform the Practice Exercises correctly. Prior to each timed Section within the test paper, the Instructions for the questions in that Section and an e xample of each type of question are presented (and read out audibly by the audio administration) and there is then a short period to attempt several practice questions (the answers to which are subsequently read out by the audio administration). Susan Daughtrey Education’s 11+ Foundation Course commences in January when your child is in Year 4 (‘standard’ 30 week Course – 1 hour 15 minutes per week). The Foundation Course concludes immediately prior to the October half term break in time for your child to join the SDE Year 5 11+ Course which begins immediately after half term.

The vast majority of the homework is ‘specific’ in so far as it is set to practice the topic(s) which were taught in the preceding lesson, as well as regular vocabulary and mental arithmetic practice. Homework takes approximately 2-3 hours per week to complete in Year 4 and 3-4 hours per week for children in Year 5. Additional Holiday Homework is also provided to continue practice and consolidation. Centrally located in Amersham-on-the-Hill and just 100m from Amersham Station (Metropolitan Line and Chiltern Rail), we know some students will be able to arrive on foot or by public transport, as we have seen at the SDE Tuition Centre in the centre of nearby Beaconsfield. Parents will also be able to make use of the town centre shops and leisure facilities while their child attends SDE tuition, thus creating multi-use car journeys. The Course focuses on teaching your child the techniques required to successfully approach each type of question. At each Session we will emulate, as far as reasonably practicable, your child’s most likely experience on the day of the real 11+ tests. Test Paper 1 is a verbal reasoning test comprising: (a) comprehension; (b) cloze (multiple choice, GL-style); (c) technical English (proof reading); and (d) verbal reasoning questions (typically from the ’21 Types’ of verbal reasoning question);

A lot depends on the difficulty of the questions on the day and how your daughter responds to the challenge. The other factor is her performance relative to everyone else. For example, 90% is not needed where 80% as a raw score for one section is very good if it gives a ranking of 80 out of 2,500 candidates. But 80% is not that good if it gives a ranking of only 400.
