On New Year's Eve, Iris, Amanda, Miles, Graham, Sophie and Olivia all happily celebrate at Graham's house together. Reading The Holiday Swap reminded me of that same feeling...I pretty much knew what to expect, and was therefore okay with something reliable, a bit ho-hum, and safe, rather than exciting. This isn't a unique premise, but these authors handled the storyline well. Charlie and Cass are identical twins. Charlie is a trained pastry chef who has a starring role on an LA television food competition show (along with a horrid co-host), and Cass works at home in a quaint mountain town running the family's bakery. When Charlie falls and gets a concussion, she is left without the ability to taste and smell anything. Knowing that her hosting job is on the line, she enlists Cass in a swap--she will work at the bakery and Cass can co-host the show. Neither one can predict the ups and downs this swap will cause in both their personal and professional lives. This one was fun! I mean, it’s utterly ridiculous as two adult twins swap places for a week, but hey, if you go with it and suspend your disbelief, it brings the festive feels and oh my god does it make you wanna eat some Christmas treats! I devoured this delightful romantic comedy in two nights. It’s like Gilmore Girls meets The Parent Trap meets Cake Wars. In other words, it’s perfect.”—Colleen Oakley, author of You Were There Too

With lavish food descriptions, Christmas references, and only mild conflict, this is light-hearted escape read. As you would expect, the characters are charming, upbeat people. The single rascal gets what he deserves. Everybody else ends up in a happy place. Jude Law makes a really good Graham. This is one of his first films that he plays a father in and he does it so well. He is fun loving and so sweet. The first scene that he is in with Cameron Diaz in which he kisses her eyes is so romantic. It makes all of us single girls just want to keep Jude on our couch and not let him get away. The kitchen scene is just a heart melting, gut wrenching, make your husband look out. Knox assembles a memorable cast and whips up inventive switched-lives scenarios filled with a host of mishaps that double the fun. Delightfully romantic plot twists further sweeten this lighthearted, feel-good story—with a message—that is sure to make rom-com readers hunger for whatever Knox decides to dish up next.— Shelf Awareness Charlie Goodwin drew a shaky breath and tapped furiously on her phone, the screen illuminating her face in the otherwise dark storeroom. She opened an app and searched for the emergency two-minute stress-release meditation. Once the soothing voice began, she closed her eyes and took another deep breath, trying to slow her frantic heartbeat. But all that did was bring the sharp scent of peppermint extract further up her nose and into her throat. Normally she loved the smell of peppermint and all Christmas-related things. But this had been sabotage. She smelled like a giant candy cane-and she wasn't feeling very festive about it. Iris Simpkins (Kate Winslet) is a woman in unrequited love nursing a broken heart because the man she is in love with has got engaged to another woman... Amanda Woods (Cameron Diaz) is a woman nursing a broken heart... and possibly a bruised fist... because her boyfriend has been cheating on her with a 24 year-old receptionist. The Holiday Swap is a women’s fiction novel set during Christmas. It’s a case of mistaken identity/disguise when identical twins swap towns/jobs temporarily.

As far as the story goes there are a few very pleasant surprises. When I first watched this movie I knew nothing about it. I hadn't seen any trailers or knew who plays in it so (if you've seen it) you probably know what I'm referring to. But anyway, the movie has a beginning, middle and end. And the journey is very enjoyable to watch. It starts... ok with not much going on and you kinda know where it's going but then the story starts to unravel and it slowldy gets bigger and bigger and it gets better as you see more while more characters enter the story. Its story line so many similarities with Vanessa Hudgens’ Netflix movie called Princess Switch: only there are a few differences: yes, there are twins and baking show at the both stories. But at this book; the sisters already know each other’s existence and they switch for work related crisis. One of them lives in quaint mountain small town as the other living in LA, hosting a baking show, competing with her cohost to get her own show. Nancy Meyers's 'The Holiday' is a sweet, cute Romantic-Comedy, that charms you. Its A Lighthearted Joyride, with proficient performances. The Holiday Swap is the cozy holiday rom-com you crave, complete with double the swoony meet-cutes, scrumptious desserts, and happily-ever-afters. With small-town gossip and reality-TV drama, Maggie Knox serves up a treat that will have foodie fiction fans begging for seconds.”

Success!

Bartram, Naomi (December 6, 2022). "The Holiday set to get sequel with original cast 17 years after film". Heart . Retrieved December 6, 2022. I just adored these characters, the food descriptions (my stomach growled so many times reading about the delectable treats the characters created), the camaraderie of the twins and the relationships they nurture and develop along the way. Yes, there's a plethora of heartwarming romance, but there is also a beautiful exploration of family and relationships, and the effect that lies, even well-intentioned ones, have on those around you. The novel also includes a (somewhat cheesy but not unexpected) happily-ever-after ending, a lovable dog, and an overall uplifting storyline. If you're looking for a bit of holiday cheer with a Hallmark movie vibe, then you cannot go wrong with The Holiday Swap. This is a whimsical, feel-good, clean story about twins Charlie (pastry chef, TV show host) and Cass (bakery owner in a quaint town). An accidental bump on the head caused Charlie to lose her sense of smell and taste, making it impossible to hide the issue while onset. Since the next few days will decide if she or her co-host gets the new show’s job, Charlie persuades her sister to pretend to be her to secure her future. Both twins have extensive baking skills so it’s simple for Cass to come to LA and Charlie to manage the bakery in her hometown. THE HOLIDAY | British Board of Film Classification". Especially conclusion warmed my heart. I don’t know how many times I sighed or find myself holding my hurting cheeks because I smiled so much and tested my cheeks flexibility! According to a radio interview on BBC Radio 1, the song " Kill the Director" by The Wombats was written about this film. From the lyrics "this is no Bridget Jones" and according to the radio interview, they hated the film, and hence decided to write a song about it. [ citation needed]

Oh, but the script. It's drek. It's an insult. It's a random jumble of utterly bogus settings and complications that some cold heart in marketing stitched together, convinced that this would rake in some dough. You've got Christmas trees, poignant reunions, and tears that appear on cue. Telling the story of two women who swap houses, one in Britain, one in the US, to escape love and men, they eventually find themselves falling in love with those closet to the woman's house they are living in. I thoroughly enjoyed this story of finding yourself while being someone else Deliciously fun and wildly romantic . . . like The Great British Bake Off meets Gilmore Girls No co-host to have to share the spotlight with; no grating or witty banter between two people who really couldn't stand one another; more freedom to spread her creative wings; and a lot more money because Bake My Day had an impressive budget. Charlie wanted the job, and she deserved it. She was the better pastry chef, and it was no secret that, of the two of them, she was easier to work with. She had noticed Sasha's eye rolls at Austin's arrogance on more than one occasion. Sasha nodded, then turned to the medic. “Sam, what do you think?” Sam! That was his name. Charlie felt momentarily energized by also remembering that Sam’s daughter’s name was Bernadette, and that she had named their dog Pancake after her favourite food.
