As such, those from other branches of Christianity may find it different from other versions with which they are more familiar. Metropolitan Kallistos is perhaps taking rather too simplistic a view of the reason for the authority of the Septuagint, but he is absolutely right to insist on its primacy within the Orthodox Church. Then, between 1931 and 2006 the Gottingen Academy of Humanities and Sciences of Lower Saxony in Germany produced a fully critical edition of all the books of the Septuagint. I expected the OSB to the Orthodox version of the NABRE, which I used to read as a Catholic (before converting to Orthodoxy). For those who desire more guidance to their devotion, morning and evening prayers are included as well as lectionary readings for those who follow the readings in the Church calendar.

The reason why I'm doing this is because the OSB has it's own unique translation for the OT and, as I said, the OT for the EOB has not came out yet. A few very important examples of this – there are many – are cited by Timothy Michael Law in his book, ‘When God spoke Greek’. The Orthodox Study Bible, created by The Orthodox Study Bible Old Testament Project and published by Thomas Nelson, uses the New King James Version of the Bible as the basis for a fresh translation of the Septuagint text. Following its use in the Pentateuch, it was used thus throughout the other books of the Greek Old Testament. This development was unfortunate: it gravely weakened the early Church’s attitude of Vetus Testamentum in Novo Receptum, and led to the present anomaly of modern biblical criticism conducted outside of the Church. We invite you to prayerfully consider sharing the resources given to you by God with a donation to the Archdiocese. And the other translators variously are doing odd or inappropriate things with their hands or eyes; and the two men flanking the team look odd to say the least.

Gregory the Theologion) I have come away with a more profound and deeper understanding than ever I had using any of the above other mentioned editions in this article (and I have had ample opportunity to use them all! g. Psalm 90 : ‘He will give His angels charge over you to keep You in all Your ways’: and Psalm 109 : ‘The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool. Many of the scriptural texts found in the Scrolls are very similar to the text of the Septuagint that we have today. Its purpose was to conduct sound scientific investigation into the Septuagint and to trace the history of evolution of the Septuagint text, on the basis of the mass of manuscript data, and ultimately to establish a text which could be claimed to be for all intents and purposes identical with the Septuagint in its pristine form, a proto-Septuagint.

This is generally available and fairly widely known today in bilingual editions in book form or on the Internet. Throughout the text are notes at the bottom which explain key points in the verses based upon the consensus of leading Orthodox Bible scholars. Also he did not translate the Deuterocanonical books, so that it is the Old Latin versions of the latter, translated from the Septuagint Greek, that are included in the Latin Vulgate.
