For some it will be remember unleashing your inner Thierry Henry with the classic Nike Total 90 Aerow I used during the 2004/05 season. For others it was fancying yourself as the next Ruud Van Nistelrooy with the Nike Geo Merlin Vapor in 2002/03. The Premier League is often described as the most dynamic league in the world and we wanted to create a ball that reflects this," added Ronan. You can get your hands on the Nike Merlin ball before the players as it goes on sale on Friday, 1 June.

Nike have had a long history with creating some memorable Premier League footballs over the last two decades. The latest offering, the Nike Flight, introduces improved aerodynamics through a revolutionary ball design. Incorporating Nike’s AerowSculpt technology, the Nike Flight ball concludes an eight-year investigation into improving consistency of football flight by the Nike Equipment Innovation Lab. A ball that felt hyper-technical and precise in nature but also inspired by this English culture of living and breathing Premier League football." New colourways The Nike Flight's Premier League history is yet to be written but expect goals galore as a resurgent Manchester United join Manchester City and what's bound to be a stronger Chelsea as they all try and dethrone reigning champions Liverpool. We wanted to design a ball that specifically illustrated the traits of Premier League football," said Kieran Ronan, GM, Global Equipment at Nike.

These latest Aerowsculpt balls are set to come in white, yellow and light blue and contain Nike Flight technology which claims to improve the flight of the ball. Debossed grooves and 3D inks in the ball will further improve its feel and aerodynamics, helping it move through the air. The ball comprises just four fuse-welded panels to provide a bigger "sweet spot" for ball striking. Leaked by Footy Headlines the three balls all share large X's plastered across as well as small crown graphics with the number 30 in the middle.

There is considerably more technology involved in football than there was when Nike first started creating Premier League balls for the 2000/01 season, and that's not just the introduction of VAR.
