Description

Which sounds stressful, and it is! This is a tense game, particularly if you’re performing the two main roles of Captain (where it’s easy to be overwhelmed by information, especially in realtime) or Radio Operator (where a single second’s inattention can be the difference between victory defeat).

In case, if all is clear and no system has a breakdown, all teams must place their markers down for you to announce your intention. Captain Sonar is a submarine duel pitting two teams of up to four players against one another in fast-paced, real-time gameplay. Separated by cardboard screens, each team divides their submarine’s responsibilities into four unique roles: captain, first mate, engineering and radio operator. Each role is tremendously important, and teamwork is required to successfully discover the opposing submarine and destroy it before the game is through. The game also features a turn-based option for playing the game, allowing for a slower and more deliberately-paced hunt. While still fun, Captain Sonar is at its finest when teams are engaged in a chaotic real-time duel to the death.

Surfacing

The more the Radio Operator is able to listen to the enemy Captain, the more easily he will be able to determine the enemy's route and position. He will need to regularly update his Captain with information on the possible location of the enemy. The screen is gigantic and cool. The varying play maps are nifty. All the individual stuff you’re drawing on is dry-erase and very functional. Everything gives you the feeling that you are playing something with heft and importance, even if it’s just a bit of inspired chaos. Coming next is the scenario system. Not all maps have this system, and like the other systems, it follows all system rules. Radiation breakdowns have no effect unless ALL radiation symbols are crossed out or they contribute to a complete area breakdown (see Complete Area Breakdown, below). If all empty spaces are marked, he will announce it to the hearing of all. For instance, if he says “Drone Ready”, the captain gets to know he has a drone if he needs one.

As said earlier, it’s advisable to have up to eight players for the game. However, if less, the captain can take on additional roles. For instance, if only a team of two, the captain has to play in addition the roles of first mate, radio operator, and engineer which is very taxing. And if three players, one of the players has to play both the role of captain and first mate. Important: there are two different ways to play: real-time mode and turn-by-turn mode. for a first game, or if you are playing in a noisy environment, we suggest you play the turn-by-turn mode. however, the real-time mode will guarantee that you get the stress and adrenaline rush of a real submarine duel!sets of 12 role sheets (1 for each team, yellow and blue). Each sheet is two-sided: the light side is used for turn-by-turn mode, while the dark side is used for real-time mode.
