They’ve also done a decent job with making this wheelbarrow easy to tip, something that many two-wheeled models struggle with. I think the ease of tipping is to do with the angle of the tub in relation to the handles, and while this will be perfectly fine for most people, if you are very tall, you might find that the front-end tips forward too much as you lift the handles higher, and this will limit how much you can shift without spillage. A ramp length 15 times the height of your tallest step will create a gradient of 1:15 or 4 degree angle. Drill – A drill is an essential tool for any woodworking project. With a drill, you can make holes for bolts, screws, and other fasteners. After giving it a lot of thought, I figured that I’d choose something that was big enough to handle medium sized loads, but not so big that it wouldn’t fit in the greenhouse. Then I thought about people whose greenhouses or sheds are already full, and that would mean leaving the wheelbarrow outside, so being weather resistant was another factor.

The downside to pneumatic tyres is obvious, and if you’ve ever owned a bicycle, motorcycle, car, etc. you will have dealt with them- punctures. With rubber and plastic tyres, you don’t have to worry about accidentally rolling over a screw, nail, or bit of glass, and then having to break out the puncture kit before you can carry on working: Pneumatic tyre is very comfortable to use until a puncture upsets things I know it’s a hard thing to accept, especially if you have been active for most of your life, but we all need to make things easier for ourselves as we get older, and the Draper Expert Garden Caddy is an ideal product for reducing some of the strain that comes with gardening. Some of the others came close but there were little things that let them down for this specific purpose. For example, the Walsall galvanised wheelbarrow had the dimensions but I wasn’t keen on the puncture-proof wheel as I’ve found that they tend to make the cement move around when you hit a bump in the ground, and some of the others we tested had those annoying bolts standing proud. Another thing to think about with two wheeled wheelbarrows is the width from wheel to wheel. Why is this important? Well, it might not be for some people but if you intend to push the barrow up a ramp, let’s say into a skip or a raised bed, that ramp will have to be wide enough for both wheels. But why spend your hard-earned money on a pre-made ramp when you can make your own DIY version? Not only is it cheaper, but building your own ramp also ensures that you get to customize it to fit your specific needs. Plus, the satisfaction of crafting something with your own two hands – it’s priceless. There are a few ways of looking at size though. Firstly, there are the actual dimensions of the wheelbarrow- height, width, etc. and these are obviously very important when you think about storage space in the garage, getting the barrow in and out of the shed door and through gates, and just generally manoeuvring it around. Trying to deftly move a huge wheelbarrow around a very small and narrow garden isn’t going to be fun, so you might want something smaller like the Crazy gadget model.

Circular saw – This powerful tool is perfect for making precision cuts through wood and other materials. Make sure you invest in a good quality saw that can handle the size of the wood you’ll be cutting. It is very clearly that when hammering a nail in it will be very difficult to see the three smaller wood that will act as support for the other planks which needs to be hammered on top of the others. Assembling one by one will give better visibility and changes can be made early. The Ramp People value transparency in all of their business transactions and want you to be able to buy from us with confidence. We have taken a number of measures to ensure that this is possible. These include: So, in the end, I settled on this Crazy Gadget wheelbarrow. With dimensions of113D x 60W x 53H centimetres, it’s big enough to be practical and useful without being overly large. It can also hold up to 65 litres which, although not as impressive as the 90 litre DJM wheelbarrow, is still pretty good.My personal favourite though, is filling it with ice and popping refreshments in there so that it doubles up as a cool box- just perfect for summer gardening as you don’t have to keep running to and from the fridge when you need ‘refreshing’. Let’s not forget a kids wheelbarrow can help you connect with them in the garden too – just like mum and dad they really do thrive! Not only that, they become far more keen to help when they feel responsible and grown up! Again, whether you should buy a plastic or metal wheelbarrow will come down to your own personal needs. For shifting heavy loads, you are better off with a metal model as they tend to be much stronger and more durable than their plastic counterparts, but they are usually more expensive (the good ones anyway). There’s also the issue with rust and corrosion, and although this problem can be contained a bit by getting a galvanised barrow like the one we featured from Walsall Wheelbarrows, it will eventually get scratched off with regular use. On the plus side, single-wheeled barrows are very manoeuvrable when compared to versions with more wheels, and as long as you are careful, and don’t’ try to break your fastest lap of the garden with a big pile of material loaded in the barrow, you should be ok. I recently saw a comment from a customer that mirrored my own thoughts about how this product could be improved, and that was with some kind of drainage plug. I understand that for moving compost and similar you need a solid bottom, but that also means rain water can build up in there, and the high sides make it harder to tip it out without laying it down on its side. Some way to remove that water easily would be a nice addition in the future. Pros

I have a non-gardening, DIY-hating friend who just can’t get his head around my array of tools and equipment and the money I spend on them. He’s into expensive sound systems for his home, so we enjoy ribbing each other over these things. Jigsaw – A jigsaw is a versatile cutting tool that will come in handy when making curved cuts or intricate shapes. It’s perfect for creating the shape of your ramp or any other decorative design. When placing the ramp, the best place is in the middle of the skip for the most stability. You will also want a decent run up to be able to get the wheelbarrow up. Once your ramp is in place, you’ll want to test if it’s secure. Try running an empty wheelbarrow up it or apply some pressure/weight to it to make sure it stays in place. Loading the skip We gave the Walsall Wheelbarrows, 85 litre, galvanised model our vote as the best one out there for builders due to the right combination of maximum possible load, manoeuvrability, and hardiness.

If you are short of space this length of ramp can be suitable. It is also useful for portable ramps at events or where assistance is available. At this stage there is a small gap that was left and wouldn't matter much but since I was able to find a piece of wood plank I decided to add so that it covers the gap. The VonHaus in particular is surprisingly heavy duty, and it is claimed it can handle static loads of up to 250kg and has a max tipping load of 180kg. We didn’t test it to its max, but we did put it through its paces and it handled the tasks extremely well, with the pneumatic tyres doing a great job and keeping the heavy loads from feeling too much to pull. Work gloves – Gloves protect your hands from sharp wood splinters and any other debris that could cause injury. The shorter handles might also have had a part to play in that too. Don’t get me wrong, they aren’t terrible, it’s just that after playing around with the Oypla that had really large handles, these seemed a bit small in comparison.

Choosing a wheelbarrow that I would recommend for allotments wasn’t an easy task. You see, there are just so many variables that come into it. Different people grow different things, and perform different tasks on their allotments, so choosing a ‘one-size-fits-all’ model was pretty much impossible. Hey there, fellow DIY enthusiast! Are you tired of struggling to move heavy loads up and down stairs or rough terrain with your wheelbarrow? We’ve got just the solution for you! In this guide, we’ll show you how to build your very own wheelbarrow ramp that’ll make your gardening and landscaping tasks a breeze. Step 1: Plan it out We do NOT decide if an item is or isn’t exempt & we don’t make any more or less money if we charge you VAT or we don’t charge you VAT. Now, I have to admit that making sharp turns with this barrow isn’t as easy as with single wheeled models like the Walsall, DJM, Crazy Gadget, and Draper wheelbarrows, but I have to say that Oypla have done a decent job at making this pretty agile. First, let’s talk about the secret ingredients that will make your wheelbarrow ramp a success. You’ll need some lumber (preferably pressure-treated), screws, nails, a circular saw, a miter saw, a drill, a measuring tape, a speed square, and some safety gear (gloves, goggles and ear protection). Ready to go? Here’s how to start. Step 1: Measure Twice, Cut Once

When deciding on a wheelbarrow for purely garden use, you have to consider more than just something you can fill up with soil or throw your gloves and tools into. As any experienced gardener knows, there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye – I reviewed this years ago and it still deserves it’s spot as best overall wheelbarrow for gardening. Here’s why:
