Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek! | Tokyo Disneyland". Tokyodisneyresort.co.jp. Archived from the original on July 22, 2013 . Retrieved May 13, 2013. The score was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Score and the song " If I Didn't Have You" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Overall, I thought the graphics were cute and well done. The storyline was good (exactly the same as the movie as far as I can remember) but somehow felt really short... although with that being said, I haven't watched the movie in years so it's hard for me to say if any scenes were cut out. For some reason, Randall is the only scarer in the first film that is referred by his first name on the Scarers' Leaderboard rather than by his last name "Boggs". At one point, this implies that Randall was actually going to be his last name rather than his first name.

While Waternoose is Randall's boss, he is more compassionate and well-mannered than Randall and had more firm reasons for his actions as he was trying to save his company from bankruptcy and stop the energy crisis, while Randall was doing it purely for personal gain and enjoyment, and also for his hatred and grudge against Sullivan and Mike since college, showing he cannot get over from a minor problem. Randall is also quite sour shown when Watnernoose told him "Sulley is twice the scarer you'll ever be." Randall has no concept of forgiveness and compassion, as stated by Sulley. Randall only cares about himself and winning, and doesn't care about anyone else, including Waternoose. In fact, it is indicated, when reminded by Waternoose that there cannot be any witness to their plan, that Randall was planning to betray & kill Waternoose once the plan succeeds. Charles Taylor of Salon magazine stated, "[i]t's agreeable and often funny, and adults who take their kids to see it might be surprised to find themselves having a pretty good time." [68] Elvis Mitchell of The New York Times gave it a positive review, praising the film's usage of "creative energy", saying "There hasn't been a film in years to use creative energy as efficiently as Monsters, Inc." [69] Although Mike Clark of USA Today thought the comedy was sometimes "more frenetic than inspired and viewer emotions are rarely touched to any notable degree", he also viewed the film as "visually inventive as its Pixar predecessors". It also marks the first (and currently only) Pixar film directed by Docter to be scored by Randy Newman, Up and Inside Out being scored by Michael Giacchino, as well as Soul being scored by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. After the success of the 3D re-release of The Lion King, [45] Disney and Pixar re-released Monsters, Inc. in 3D on December 19, 2012. [46] Home media Randall’s jealousy towards Sulley and his desire to become top scarer gives him more of a villainous motivation than Waternoose, who is only driven to villainy due to being too desperate to save his company to care about the possible negative consequences of his actions. a b c d Snetiker, Marc. "Pete Docter dives deep into Monsters, Inc. legacy and creation, 15 years later". Entertainment Weekly. Archived from the original on November 3, 2016 . Retrieved November 4, 2016.In the scene where Mr. Waternoose ejects the door to the child's bedroom in the simulation room, the English Audio Description narrator states that Boo's door is being ejected into the vault, but the door isn't hers. Docter started working on the script in 1996 and with Harley Jessup, Jill Culton, and Jeff Pidgeon completed a draft treatment in February 1997. The initial story did not have the character of Mike Wazowski. He was not added until a story review meeting between Pixar and Disney in April 1998. The film went into production in 2000. The idea for Monsters, Inc., along with ideas that would eventually become A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, and WALL-E was conceived in a lunch in 1994 attended by John Lasseter, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton and Joe Ranft during the near completion of Toy Story. [11] One of the ideas that came out of the brainstorming session was a film about monsters. "When we were making Toy Story", Docter said, "everybody came up to me and said 'Hey, I totally believed that my toys came to life when I left the room.' So when Disney asked us to do some more films, I wanted to tap into a childlike notion that was similar to that. I knew monsters were coming out of my closet when I was a kid. So I said, 'Hey, let's do a film about monsters. '" [12] Berardinelli, James. "Monsters, Inc. – A movie review by James Berardinelli". Reelviews.net. Archived from the original on September 5, 2020 .
