Hope you all liked this, it's definitely my longest post ever so feel free to critique my formatting too ;) Gaming - If you are predominantly using the keyboard for gaming, I would recommend a linear key switch. They offer a smooth keystroke and are silent. Most gaming keyboards include a Red key switch. There are several factors to consider when looking to choose the type of mechanical key switch for your next keyboard. Work (or Play) Environment Even though these are Pro switches, I did not find them to be as smooth as the Box or Speed switches. They have quite a wobbly feel, especially compared to the Kailh Box switches. They have a good tactile bump right at the start of the key press and feel more linear for the rest of the key travel. They have a stiffer spring towards the end of the keystroke, similar in feel to the Kailh Heavy switches and are quite difficult to bottom out. One thing I do like with the Pro Purple is the sound. They have a nice reassuring thud when pressed, a richer sound than the Box Brown. They have often been labelled a poor cousin to Zealios switches, especially the 65g and 67g versions. I prefer to think of them as having a unique feel. If you are a light typist and do not regularly bottom out your keys, these are a fantastic switch. If you are a heavy typer you may not enjoy their feel when they bottom out.

I would wholeheartedly like to see a Box Royal with a heavier spring, maybe somewhere in-between 60-70g or so to make that switch truly shine, maybe call it a Box Duke or something. I would also love to see a middle ground spring weight between the Jade and the Navy while keeping the rest of the switch the same to have the best of both worlds, maybe call it a Box Ruby. Kailh Box Jade switches are some of the most popular mechanical keyboard switches on the market. They offer a smooth, linear feel and have a very tactile bump near the actuation point. This makes them ideal for gaming or typing. Linear key switches are popular for gaming, where the smooth travel of the keys minimises any finger fatigue due to fast and intensive key presses. Key Switch I received both BOX Jades and Navies so naturally the first thing that I did was open up the bags and test them out individually, comparing them to their counterparts the BOX White and Pale Blues. The first thing I noticed was that the Navies had a much more cushioned feel to them and the Jades had a more pronounced tactile bump (I would attribute this to the differences in the spring weights as generally speaking a lighter spring allows the bump to be more pronounced).IP stands for Ingress Protection, with the IP rating number being split into 2 digits, with the first digit representing the solid protection and the second digit the liquid protection. These switches feature a unique box design to the stem. This keeps the stem protected to provide an IP56 rating for dust and moisture and also reduces any keycap wobble. Ever since Cherry's patents on the MX switches expired in 2014, the market has been flooded with inexpensive clones of their key switches. Many of these are of poor quality; however, a few companies such as Gateron and Kailh have grown to offer switches that match and in many cases better the Cherry equivalents. When looking to buy a keyboard with Kailh Box Jade Switches, there are several factors you need to consider. First, you need to make sure the keyboard is compatible with your device.

Coming to the second sound test recording with OBS Studio and RNNoise, I want to first state that when I listen to when I am speaking and typing with RNNoise enabled I can still hear the Box Jades, but they are clearly and significantly muffled compared to the unfiltered version. Once you’ve decided on the type of switch you want, you need to decide on the weight. Kailh Box Jade switches come in three weights: light, medium, and heavy. The weight you choose will depend on your personal preferences. IP56 - This rating covers most Kailh switches, with a solid protection rating of 5, meaning partial protection against dust and other particulates and a liquid protection rating of 6, meaning protection against powerful jets of directed water from any direction.

Review:

Kailh Box Jade switches are a variation of Kailh Box switches, with a jade green stem. Kailh Box switches are considered tactile, meaning that they provide a noticeable bump when actuated. Activation Force - measured in grams (g) and represents the force that needs to be applied to activate the switch. A lower number gives the keyboard a lighter feel; however, you may find that these switches are activated too easily. The higher the number the harder the keys will feel. A gamer or typist prefers a balance as too high an activation force can result in finger fatigue over time. I do not think this is the norm though with this switch but just a bad combination of things, but I must put it here to detail everything that happened (you know, science). And because of this I would personally recommend a harder (or less universal) plate when building with these switches. I did fix the problem without much hassle and ended up putting a Navy there just for safety. Kailh Box Jades are the current industry standard for mechanical keyboard switches. However, there are alternatives to Kailh Box Jade switches that may be a better fit for your needs. Activation - measured in mm and represents the distance the key switch needs to travel before it is activated. Too little can result in keys being incorrectly activated if you are a fast typist and too high can make typing speeds slower as you need to depress each key further. Note that there is always a tolerance of around 0.6mm in these values. Some switches designed for gamers offered a reduced activation resulting in a faster response time.

I created a scene and a profile in OBS Studio that captures both the recording microphone and the headset microphone to two separate streams, and then I duplicated the device captures to add the RNNoise filter. This allows me to have four separate streams, two per microphone with one being an unfiltered version and the other being with just RNNoise enabled. With an FFmpeg script I have the video removed from the recording, the audio converted to FLAC, and the audio made mono. (OBS Studio seems to only be able to record in stereo, even when the source is mono.) This makes them ideal for gaming or typing in silence. Linear switches are smooth and silent, making them perfect for gaming. These babies are holy dang tactile, I used other words when describing to friends but I think holy dang is pretty good. If there is any liquid or food residue on the switch, use a gentle cleaning solution (such as isopropyl alcohol) to clean it off. Be sure to dry the switch off thoroughly afterwards. Tactile key switches are popular for typing as they offer a noticeable tactile bump when pressed and have little noise. The tactile bump allows typists to achieve higher typing speeds as they are aware of the point the switch activates and can therefore remove their finger and move to the next key. Key SwitchI love my box jades but they seem to be slightly too stiff. Thinking about buying some whites. But I'm not sure. Read that the whites have near zero tactility. How are they compared to gateron blues in that regard? Is their sound similar to jades? Some people prefer Kailh Box Jade Switches because they offer a slightly faster keypress than Cherry MX Blues. However, Kailh Box Jade Switches also have a bit more of a tactile bump than Cherry MX Blues, which some people find annoying.

The impact of RNNoise is quite clear here as the only-typing section in the middle is almost flat for both the recording microphone and the headset. I can also see it made some difference during the only-speaking section, even though there was no noticeable source of noise at the time. Regardless, we can see from the waveforms, RNNoise had a very significant impact and was able to remove or reduce much of the typing sounds.

Introduction:

I also still make mistakes on it because the typing experience really is different, and sometimes bottoming out the key seems to make it take longer on the return travel. This can be really awkward in the beginning but as I type on the board I definitely don't feel the return as much as I did in the beginning.
