Which one is it? It's only a matter of time before she uncovers the truth as to which friend is her husband's lover. The mistress thinks she has fooled Sophie, but she's not the only one who's keeping secrets!

SHE* . . . is OBSESSED……with love for her husband….[yet is also obsessed with worry if her husband is in love with her]….In her world, everything must be perfect and she obsesses and over-analyzes every little thing people say, do, or look, most especially her husband. She* has specific rules about what happens on each one of these days or what each day symbolizes. And they all have a ‘color’. Our unnamed Parisian housewife is madly in love with her husband. She even resents the children from taking his attention away from her. She will do anything for him. She orbits him like the earth orbits the sun. She thinks he is the most charismatic and charming man. With vigor and zest she proudly worships the ground he walks on. Yet, she's filled with anxiety that he will leave her someday and that thought is utterly dreadful to her. Whether it’s something simple like what you want to do on a Saturday night or something major like which house to buy, your narcissistic husband probably doesn’t really listen to your opinion. He might pretend to, but then he does whatever he wants to anyway, regardless of what you think. 3. He Needs to Be Right Every Time I’ve always found tranquil, partnerships uninteresting. Couples that don’t ever argue come off as inferior, and I’ve always suspected they love each other less. But I’ve also always refused to engage in ordinary squabbles. That my husband doesn’t do the dishes after dinner, or doesn’t know how to iron a shirt is annoying, but those are obstacles I can overcome; on the other hand, I don’t know that I would be able to bear such a banal argument for such trivial a reason”.

You can only get the extra State Pension once you’ve reached State Pension age. State Pension top up Sophie is looking forward to spending time swimming with her girlfriends at a secluded cabin for a week. She deserves this getaway after learning of her husband's affair. In the midst of her painful marriage, Sophie has been kept sane by her friends and their swim group. The trip appears to be running smoothly, until Sophie's husband calls to confess that his secret lover is one of her "trusted" friends staying in the cabin. Every time she did, he immediately moved away from her and you could tell it was bothering him but he didn’t say anything.’

I seriously loved this book. I loved how drama filled it was. The way she planned out every ridiculous thing so it made sense to her. She'd be over here inning he hates her and is leaving her just because they didn't hold hands. Jess Ryder's books are always a good read and this was no exception. The wild swimming theme is very on trend (we just called it swimming outdoors in my day) and this aspect of the story was well described and atmospheric, as is the isolation of the house they stay in - so much so that you can't drive there but instead have to park in a lay-by and walk for an hour and a half. I love a bit of rural isolation but I'm not sure I'd go that far.
