As usual I’ll have a look at the technical data of the new Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art first. I’ve rated the features with a [+] (or [++]), when it’s better than average or even state of the art, a [0] if it’s standard or just average, and [-] if there’s a disadvantage. For comparison I use the Sony 24-70mm f2.8 GM, the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 Di III RXD, the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 24-70mm f2.8, and the Nikon Z 24-70mm f2.8 S. For short I simply use “Sigma”, “Sony”, “Tamron”, “Panasonic”, and “Nikon” in the comparisons below. The Sigma is at its shortest around 60mm and longest at 24mm focused closely as it extends a small amount with focusing. Now Sony has the Mk. II out now, and there's more (listed) competion, like DPR posted exactly - but forgetting the cheapest 24-70/2.8 of them all, the new Samyang 24-70/2.8, which is being something enhanced with their latest v3 Firmware...and cheapest price is under 740 EUR new. Review (posted last year) online in german here: Proč tento model? In terms of lens deficiencies, other than it looking sharp, in focus etc I don't go looking for minor abnormalities. Most of the time, if there is something, only a trained eye will see it and probably only when zoomed in.... so it really isn't a concern of mine. It really is that good. I might even use the word “flawless” once or twice in this review, I’m not sure yet. It has literally everything going for it, from being smaller and lighter than its DSLR predecessor to being flawlessly sharp. (One!) It is also built like a tank, and just about the only thing missing is optical stabilization, a feature that only Canon’s full-frame mirrorless 24-70mm f/2.8 has, (in conjunction with their sensor-based stabilization, too!) …while on Sony’s GM flagship 24-70, you are restricted to IBIS. Having a slightly different focal length to the other lenses, the Tamron does have a narrower field of view, starting at 28mm and finishing at 75mm (32 - 75°). But I did not see a huge difference in this when using the lens, you can still get very much the same shots as you would with the other 24-70s. The lens itself was very sharp and gave edge-to-edge sharpness throughout the range of the zoom.I recently set up a studio session with a friend of mine who is a burlesque dancer out of San Francisco to give the lens a fair shake through a busy two-hour session. Looking over the images I captured with it, both on the Sony a7R IV and the a7 III, I am very pleased with the results. The newer VXD G2 is a more modern, ground-up redesign that outperforms the Sigma in most areas except bokeh performance. But it's hard to argue that you should spend twice as much for the Sony G Master in light of the Sigma Art lens' solid all-around performance. It can deliver very attractive images in almost all respects while saving you easily enough money to buy another lens or piece of camera gear for your kit.

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Review | Who Should Buy It? Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art, Sigma FP, 4K RAW video frameBinoculars & Scopes Binoculars Scopes Camera Bags & Cases Camera Bags Camera Bag Accessories Tripods & Heads Tripods Monopods, Minipods & clamps Tripod Heads & Accessories The Sigma 24-70 has barrel distortion from 24mm to 30mm or so and pincushion from 45mm or so to 70mm.

I’ve reviewed the 24-70mm DN on my Sony a7RIII and Sony a9 bodies. Thanks to Sigma Canada for the loaner test lens. But here is (very) strong competition, see the latest 24-70/2.8 L RF-Mount, Nikons excellent 24-70/2.8 S Z-Mount, and then there is a also the Panasonic 24-70/2.8 S for L-Mount, which costs 2500 EUR and is no slouch, too. I am looking to buy a versatile zoom lens for landscape photography on a Sony A7Riv that will give me more room on the wide end and yield better sharpness and less longitudinal chromatic aberration than my Tamron 28-200mm (which, don't get me wrong, is fantastic for its price and versatility). I'm trying to decide between the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 and Sony 24-105mm f4. Will these both give me better results than the Tamron? Now you may say a decent prime lens will give better results for street or portrait photography. This may be true, and we will agree. However, most prime lenses with a good wide aperture can be very costly if you are wanting that lovely smooth bokeh or shallow depth of field and edge to edge sharpness. Returning to the f2.8 image and heading into the far corner shows a very mild drop in sharpness and minor darkening from vignetting, but it’s still a great-looking result especially as again it was focused in the middle. As you gradually close the aperture, any darkening will lift and you’ll gain some extra sharpness on the far corner. Conclusion:

Starting from the end of the barrel is an 82mm filter thread, followed by a free-spinning and very smooth manual focusing ring. Behind this is an AF / MF switch and two programmable function buttons, followed by the zoom ring which extends the barrel by about 35mm when zoomed to the longest focal length. Measuring 3.5" x 4.5" (88.7 x 115.5mm) and weighing 25.2 oz (715g), the Sigma is still smaller and lighter than Launch of the 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN Art Zoom lens for full frame mirrorless cameras, leveraging the top-level Art zoom performance, featuring: There are a couple of notable figures: firstly, the minimum focusing distance of 7.09" (18 cm) is remarkable, putting both of its competitors to shame. Secondly, it’s about half an inch shorter and more than five percent lighter than the Sony. While these aren’t dramatic savings, this is the type of lens that spends a huge amount of time attached to many photographers’ cameras, so those small differences may add up. Unfortunately the Sigma can't compete with the G Master II when it comes to autofocus performance. Although the Sigma is no slouch in this regard, the Sony delivers faster and smoother focusing thanks to its four linear XD motors.
