Our metric tank connectors have a fixed nut at one end. This has two advantages: firstly, it makes sealing much easier as there is no risk of fluid travelling along the thread; and, secondly, as there is only one nut to tighten, installation, especially by one person, is far easier. I've got a bit of an interesting dilemma. I've installed a couple of large water butts inside our conservator to act as a thermal store to prevent temperature spikes. They heat up slowly in the day helping to reduce high day time temperatures and then slowly release the stored energy at night to help keep the frosts off. Works great and i hardly need any supplementary heating in the winter to prevent frosts an protect the fruit trees growing in there. My problem is after very heavy rain the overflow (a 40mm tank connector and waste pipe) I've fitted can't keep up with the 68mm gutter down pipe feeding into the water butts. I wanted to either fit a 68mm pipe as an overflow but i can't seem to find a 68mm tank connector, or alternatively i could use 2x 50mm tank connectors side by side and then join them into a 68mm gutter down pipe that goes under the concrete floor into the soakaway. Threaded tank connectors are solvent weld; always use a non-toxic sealant when fitting this product
