I’ll be in conversation with bestselling author CJ Tudor at Goldsboro Books, Brighton. Details are here. CHILTERN KILLS, GERRARD’S CROSS, UK: 7-8 OCTOBER 2023 One of the mysteries involving a contestant named Ryan highlights the fragility of mental health and how reality tv can make it that much worse. Also it brings into light, the delicate balance and need for entertainment for viewers while protecting contestants from mental breakdowns. There's some great world building/family secrets/personal details in TLP, and AGOL expands on those a bit.

The mystery itself is suspenseful and twisty, and I think I suspected almost every character of murder at one point or another … well, except for the actual murderer, that is. I also did not see the twist regarding the murderer coming at all.

A Game of Lies is a suspenseful and entertaining second installment of the DC Morgan series. I can't say that I enjoyed it quite as much as the first book, The Last Party, but it was still a solid read that kept me guessing right up until the very end. There's also a lot less of Cwm Coed's residents in this one. Several of them make an appearance, and Caleb (Seren's boyfriend) and Ceri (the postwoman) play important roles, but overall the story is much more focused on the reality show contestants and crew and their filming location outside of town. And don't expect the contestants to be particularly likeable, because (much like the residents of The Shore from the last novel) they absolutely are not. At least this is another one where you don't feel too bad for the murder victim. Let's not forget how, from the moment I read the first DC Morgan book, I fell in love with Cwm Coed, a small fishing town nestled between Wales and England. I adore the vivid, realistic characters, the peculiar, eccentric, complex family dynamics of Ffion (I adored her Mam Ellen Morgan and wished we could see more of her in this book), her unresolved feelings with her ex, and her fiery new love relationship with DS Leo Brady, which might be sabotaged by her own insecurities. The disappearance of a contestant wasn't supposed to be part of the drama. Detective Ffion Morgan has to put aside what she's watched on screen, and find out who these people really are - knowing she can't trust any of them.

I don't think you absolutely need to read The Last Party before reading A Game of Lies, but here's my two, two cents: It’ll be my first visit to the famous Bert’s Books, in Swindon – and I can’t wait! Join me for a glass of a fizz and a chat about A Game of Lies. CHORLEYWOOD, UK: 25 SEPTEMBER 2023 Seven reality contestants are camped out in the Welsh mountains, for the reality show Exposure. Except when the game begins the rules change and the whole point of the game takes a turn that none of them see coming and it strikes terror in many of them. The next morning, one of the contestants is missing and a search begins, with Detective Morgan being one of the officers involved. And when a murderer strikes, Ffion knows every one of her suspects has an alibi . . . and a secret worth killing for. I immediately felt drawn in by this premise. My secret is that I’ve secretly watched tv-shows, being both fascinated and disgusted by myself for peeking into others lives. I loved how this show especially raised moral questions like aren’t we all a part of a culture where we devour news about others missteps? Why do we need to do so? This was not a big part of the book, but I liked that these questions were raised. Many thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for sharing this amazing book's digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest thoughts. Apart from that this was an excellent read. There were lots of contestants with valid motives for acting out, and if you pay close attention while reading the ending will satisfy you. I felt the author really had thought through how it all should play out, writing a plot that was watertight and where events made perfect sense when you were given the last puzzle piece. I also loved seeing what happened between Ffifon and Leo. The feelings and reactions they evoked from each other felt real. The pacing of the book is excellent. The writing is clear and concise, and the dialogue is realistic and engaging. The author's descriptions of the Welsh mountains are vivid and add to the atmosphere of the story. Capital Crime gathers together some of the world’s biggest crime fiction authors, and I’m delighted to be appearing with one of my favourite authors, Shari Lapena. COOKHAM, UK: 23 SEPTEMBER 2023 Twisty and clever. Another deeply enjoyable mystery from a talented storyteller." - Karin Slaughter

This is the second novel with Detective Ffion Morgan and it was even more enjoyable than the first. I think it may end up being one of my favourite novels this year.Stranded in the Welsh mountains, seven reality show contestants have no idea what they've signed up for. Each of these strangers has a secret. If another player can guess the truth, they won't just be eliminated - they will be exposed live on air. The stakes are higher than they ever imagined, and they're trapped. The disappearance of a contestant wasn't supposed to be part of the drama. Detective Ffion Morgan has to put aside what she watched on screen and find out who these people really are - knowing she can't trust any of them. We have Dave the super rescue dog, who adds so much entertainment from the very start, a bunch of reality contestants caught in a game of lies controlled by a very unlikeable producer and detectives all watching it unfold on tv during the investigation. We have an ex boyfriend of Morgan's, her ex husband and some tenous relationships playing out, all the while during the investigation and that is before a murderer strikes. This was so suspenseful and thoroughly entertaining throughout. I could not put it down. What a sensational novel and my favourite by the author so far. Detective Ffion Morgan is a strong, intelligent, and relatable protagonist. She is determined to get to the bottom of the case and doesn't let her personal biases cloud her judgment. Her character is well-written, and her investigation is believable and realistic. In October 2016, the French translation of I Let You Go ( Te Laisser Partir) won "best international novel" at the Cognac Festival Prix du Polar awards. [4] In March 2017 publisher Little, Brown announced that I Let You Go has sold over one million copies worldwide. This was a great thriller and a great commentary on reality TV. Excellent novel and I can't wait to read the next mystery in this series!

Generally perfectly fine, not one of those voices that makes it hard to listen to - all very atmospheric and a good storyteller. FINALLY, I WAS JEALOUS OF THE UK READERS WHO HAVE HAD THIS OUT FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW. IT IS FINALLY AVAILABLE TO US READER'S AS AN ARC!! In de bergen van Wales gaat een spraakmakende realityshow van start. De deelnemers hebben ieder een geheim dat ze koste wat kost verborgen willen houden. Dan verdwijnt een van de deelnemers spoorloos. However someone PLEASE tell Chloe Angharad Davies that she cannot do a “scouse” accent! It is so awful as to be grating and distracting to the extent that I’m considering getting the next in the series in print form - which is really annoying thing to have to do.Membery, York (5 May 2019). "Fame and Fortune: I quit the police and found that crime pays". The Times. An evening of crime fiction, with Louise Mumford, Chris Lloyd and me! Book a place here. ABERGAVENNY, UK: 23 AUGUST 2023 In the second of the series we watch as Ffion and her team have to deal with a TV company filming a new reality TV show on their doorstep. Exposure has been lauded as a groundbreaking show, and yet its not quite what the contestants expected - they all have a secret, and to win they have to keep their secret safe. With so much money on the line it doesn’t take long to realise that people have a vested interest in some secrets staying hidden.
