About this deal

Also, the thin strip of caramel hardly provides any real flavor. Uhg, I feel like I wasted money, but at the same time, I’m glad I finally just tried it out for myself. This one had crushed up peanuts on top and was coated in milk chocolate. It had a thin layer of (I’m assuming) caramel inside.

Short answer: No. But honestly, what did you expect? The chocolate coating is creamy, the centre is soft (definitely reminiscent of nougat), the caramel layer is nice and moist, and the hazelnut pieces certainly add a slight crunch; but this is definitely not Rocher-esque. All in all I was left wanting more coconut and more choco, and my jaw was left wanting a rest. Caramel Cashew (6/10) The mint hits you first – nice and fresh. There’s a minty cream under the coating which makes for a nice moisture which saves the bar from being too ‘tough’. The core is the chewier ‘old-style’, not as soft as some of the more recent ‘nougat-y’ textured centres which is a shame. When Fulfil discontinued the ‘ Lemon Zinger’ I was more than a little bitter (pun fully intended). Although Barebell’s attempt isn’t quite as good, it’s certainly not bad. It’s not bad at all. And then there’s the issue that if you promise dark chocolate, you should really deliver dark chocolate. I love dark chocolate – it’s rich is wonderful, and I don’t even mind the hint of bitterness. But this isn’t it. It’s too sweet and too faint a flavour. Plus, the chocolate coating is too thin for it to hold it’s own against the mint.Mint chocolate has really grown on me, and I no longer consider it toothpaste with a twist. A pretty standard protein bar flavour, Barebells’ mint offering doesn’t match the likes of Grenade, but it’s a pleasant bar for mint fanatics (but not if you’re expecting dark chocolate). It doesn’t have the same crunchy shortbread interior as a Twix bar, but the crunchy cookie pieces on the outside, combined with the extremely soft & caramel-y interior, make this resemble a Twix.

I was the least excited to try this one because the flavor doesn’t sound that exciting. I’m not typically a big peanut gal, so I didn’t have high expectations. On top of their slightly spennier price point, there are so many different varieties of protein bar out there. It can be hard to know which one to choose – especially if you have dietary requirements (such as being vegan), have allergies or suffer from IBS. It’s not too sweet, but there’s definitely sweetness to it. There are sugar alcohols (14g) in these bars to sweeten them, which often don’t sit well with my stomach. But after eating quite a few of these bars (multiple boxes) I haven’t noticed any issue with the sugar alcohols. INGREDIENTS: : MILK PROTEIN BLEND (CALCIUM CASEINATE, WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE, WHEY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE), GLYCERIN, BOVINE COLLAGEN HYDROLYSATE, MALTITOL, POLYDEXTROSE, COCOA BUTTER, WATER, DRY WHOLE MILK, UNSWEETENED CHOCOLATE, SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE, SUNFLOWER OIL, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, TAPIOCA STARCH, SALT, SUNFLOWER LECITHIN, SUCRALOSE. This protein bar is good enough that even if every other flavor of Barebells protein bars was extremely average, I would still consider them the best protein bar on the market.

All the flavors look basically the same: a thin coating of milk chocolate and some sort of chunks on top (in this case, chocolate chunks.) The flavour here is really nice. It’s definitely lemony, but not so zingy as to make you wince. The curd layer is a great addition, and any bitterness is beautifully balanced by the sweetness from the white chocolate. The August 1998 FLEX magazine has ads for seven bars: Bio X, Protein 21, White Lightning, ProMax, Steel, Core, and Triathlon. Two of those made note of their 27 grams of protein. Similarly, Clif Bar was created in 1992 by a cyclist and marketed to outdoor adventurers. It, too, eventually birthed a popular line of higher-protein (20 g.) bars (named Builders) for those more focused on reps than miles. Tiger’s Milk, Power Bar, and Clif Bar were often your only options in health food stores until the mid-’90s, when bars targeted specifically to bodybuilders began impacting the market. MODERN PROTEIN BARS They’re not insanely high in fiber like Quest Bars, and they don’t contain a ton of sugar alcohols either (only around 5g per bar). I don’t know what’s happened with the coating on this and the coconut-choco flavours, but Barebells have certainly become really stingy. The coating here was thin, and even the cashew pieces were basically shivering they were so exposed. Otherwise the centre is soft once again, and the caramel layer adds a nice moisture, even if it is hard to detect. The % Daily Value (DV) tells you how much a nutrient in a serving of food contributes to a daily diet. 2,000 calories a day is used for general nutrition advice.

Texture– All of these had varying degrees of chewiness, and none of them were chalky at all. They have a great texture for protein bars. Barebells are a fairly new protein bar to the game, having been founded in 2016. However, that was in Sweden, and they didn’t make their way to the US for several years after that. Barebells are the most candy bar-like protein bar out there, and they’ve totally changed the way I view protein bars.Very rarely does a product come along that I love unconditionally. Not to mention how rare it is to enjoy every flavor variation, too.
