Description

The third book in Chris Wraight’s Vaults of Terra series finds Interrogator Spinoza at a loss with Inquisitor Cowl mysteriously missing, and an impending threat to the Throneworld forcing her to choose between the search for her mentor and the defence of her realm. The clues to the conspiracy that consumed Cowl have gone dark alongside him, and with enemies circling from all sides, Spinoza’s running out of time to decide what lengths she’ll go to for victory. A pair of Aspiring Sorcerers are the minds behind this operation, slinging spells and guiding a cohort of undying Rubric Marines through cramped corridors, armed with enchanted bolters and mutagenic warpflamers. Ahead of these implacable automata lurch the maddened Chaos Spawn – mutant fiends born of the Flesh Change, who hunt down horrified foes with unnatural strength and deadly speed.

Here’s the new Warhammer 40k Boarding Patrol updated value and pricing breakdown for the Sisters of Battle, Adeptus Custodes, and Thousand Sons! The Adeptus Custodes are the Emperor’s finest. Golden demigods, they are His bodyguards and attendants, trained for centuries in the ancient art of walloping literally anything that gets in their way, tasked with missions too personal and dangerous even for the mighty Space Marines. This set is led by no less a personage than Captain-General Trajann Valoris, who is joined by three Allarus Custodians, and five Custodian Guards. With Commander Farsight running around the Arks of Omen chopping up everyone in sight, two more crimson-clad gangs of melee enthusiasts have arrived to claim his crown in the latest episode of Battle Report . It’s a three-way Boarding Actions showdown between the Farsight Enclaves, the World Eaters, and the Flesh Tearers – and woe betide any poor soul who brings a gun to this sword fight. Now, my first impression with this box is that it doesn’t provide you with a variety of units at all. In fact, it basically leaves you with one strategy really – spam, spam and spam again. The Rubric Marines, being Space Marines, will have good shooting, especially if you get a couple of Soulreaper cannon upgrades in there. The Chaos Spawn provide the melee, but really that’s it. I’m not a Thousand Sons player, but if I were to start, this would not be the Boarding Patrol for me. Cinderak City has fallen, and the rebellious Lady Credo has dealt a significant blow against the Imperial House. Lady Haera Helmawr seeks to consolidate her damaged authority – but even as she sends hundreds of Enforcer patrols flooding into the depths of Hive Primus, a Redemptionist Crusade grows into the tens of thousands, following a mysterious leader in search of a lost prophet…Boarding Patrol: Adeptus Custodes provides an elite force of gold-clad warriors, perfectly suited to sundering foes in games of Warhammer 40,000 – especially in the dense and deadly Boarding Action missions detailed in the Arks of Omen series – and will save you money compared to buying the kits individually. Boarding Patrol: Thousand Sons is a miniatures game from Games Workshop set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. In this game, players take on the role of the Thousand Sons, a powerful and mysterious Chaos Space Marine Legion that is steeped in ancient lore and sorcery. If you missed it, we look at the latest pricing and values of the new Warhammer 40k box sets in separate posts below: This expansion contains new lore on Necromunda’s bloody civil war, seven narrative scenarios to re-enact the Great Pilgrimage, four Dramatis Personae central to the story, and plenty of additional rules for House Cawdor and Palanite Enforcer gangs. Enforcer ‘Sanctioner’ Pattern Automata If you missed it, we’ll look at the latest pricing and values of the new Warhammer 40k box sets in separate posts below:

The Thousand Sons units are a mix of heavily armored Chaos Space Marines and powerful psykers, each with their own unique abilities and equipment. From the deadly Rubric Marines to the insidious Tzaangors, each unit brings its own strengths and weaknesses to the battlefield. Tactically, boarding actions lists are all about navigating the new challenges of a space ship – and each mission brings fresh challenges,” Rich adds. “For example, which unit will you walk through a furnace to score Victory Points, and which unit do you task with guarding the OFF switch for said furnace? Building your ideal Boarding Patrol is the first of many decisions you’ll need to make.” The game is played on a board representing a spaceship or space station, and the goal of the Thousand Sons is to gain control of key objectives and eliminate the Adeptus Custodes defenders. Players take turns moving their units, shooting at enemies, and engaging in close combat. You can read more about this awesome terrain kit in our interview with its designer earlier this year.

Lead your assault with a fearless Canoness, who can be armed with a variety of guns, blades, and relics to slay heretics, xenos, and traitors alike. An elite bodyguard of five Celestian Sacresants follow in her wake, carrying power weapons and heavy shields to sweep the corridors clean. Behind them follow ten armoured Battle Sisters, as well as squad of Repentia, fanatical fallen sisters driven to battle by a whip-wielding Repentia Superior. Boarding Patrol: The Thousand Sons Lawmen with integrity aren’t entirely absent from Necromunda – they’re just so rare that each one is a legend in their own right. The one known as Ashwood Stranger certainly seems to be an ex-Enforcer, judging by the armour, but all we know for certain is that tales of his righteous crusade for justice stretch from hive to hive, leaving a trail of wrong-doers peppered with stub rounds in his wake. The Stranger comes in resin and will be available from the Forge World webstore. Boarding Actions are an excellent way to build small, thematic armies that can’t fill the full-sized battlefields of Warhammer 40,000, such as these Aeldari Corsairs . Prince Yriel of Iyanden leads his Eldritch Raiders into the bowels of a great Ark, filling all three Corsair squads with mid-range troops that can load an ungodly number of power swords into a cool 499 points.

We’ve already taken our first peek at the rules for this new expansion. Today, we’re joined by Rich Butler from the Warhammer Studio team to have a look at the armies you’ll be building.

Is the Adeptus Custodes Boarding Patrol Worth It?

The immediate difference between the Boarding Patrol and other Warhammer 40,000 Detachments is that nothing is compulsory,” Rich explains. “It’s perfectly viable to take no Troops or HQs whatsoever, allowing lists to lean into clear concepts like an all- Navy Breacher force, or take nothing but Khorne Berzerkers – the gentleman’s choice.” This box can be used to assemble a variety of units – the recommended build for Boarding Action games is Trajann Valoris, two Allarus Custodians split into squads of one model each, and three Custodian Guards. Additional Rules: New rules for House Cawdor and Palanite Enforcer gangs to use in games of Necromunda, including new vehicle crew and gang tactics for House Cawdor gangs, as well as Cawdor Way-Brethren mounted atop Ridge Walkers, while Enforcers unleash ‘Sanctioner’ Pattern Automata and Hardcase Cyber-mastiffs on unsuspecting criminals. Also included are rules for the Chronos-pattern Ironcrawler, and options for allying your gang with the Imperial House. This box is interesting because it’s the first one with an entire squad of Repentia! A lot of the boxes had like three of them for whatever reason, so this is just fun to see. This is a pretty combat-focused box, but overall seems pretty decent. Boarding Patrol: Adeptus Custodes

Is the Thousand Sons Boarding Patrol Worth It?

Crusading Gangs: Rules for embarking any gang on a holy Crusade, as they pledge themselves to one of a selection of Saints and seek their miraculous blessings by following that Saint’s Tenets. Bring the light of the Emperor to the void with Boarding Patrol: Adepta Sororitas, scouring the Arks of Omen with bolt, flame, and melta. A devout Canoness leads five Celestian Sacresants, 10 Sisters Repentia, and 10 Battle Sisters into the breach, making this a durable fighting force with plenty of power armour and some chainsword punch. Trajann has been in nearly every starter box for these guys so far, but no real issue. Then getting Guards and Allarus is always nice, but when you look at this compared to either the Combat Patrol or the Christmas Battleforce, it just seems like fewer minis, so let’s hope the price reflects that. Boarding Patrol: The Thousand Sons All models are supplied with their appropriate bases. These miniatures are supplied unpainted and require assembly – we recommend using Citadel Plastic Glue and Citadel Colour paints. There’s the obvious call for Ahriman but there’s also Exalted Sorcerers or the Infernal Master to add. If you wanted to go big you could go for a Sorcerer in Terminator Armour or even a Daemon Prince. As for the next steps from there you have to figure out what sort of army you really want as you’re still at the bare-bones stage. Do you want to add some beef with the Scarab Occult Terminators? Maybe you want to toss in some Tzaangors for cheaper objective takers? More Rubric Marines is also a valid option. You’ve also got access to some of the might chaos daemon engines out there. And for the heavy hitters you’ve even got a Daemon Prince Primarch in Magnus to consider.
