About this deal

This camera is a distinct improvement on the Recon Force Edge and produces even better images and videos. It's also compatible with rechargeable batteries (Eneloop Pro recommended), and if you want great videos this (or the Recon Force Elite HP5 or Spec Ops Elite HP4/HP5) is the one to get! This camera works really well with our close-up lens kit (below) for daylight shots of your feathered friends. Unfortunately, the five Radiant 5 LED bulbs make this camera very noticeable and hard to conceal. In addition, the ultra-bright flash also seems to spook animals even more than the traditional 850nm infrared illumination. This camera gives more illumination than the Recon Force Elite HP4 and produces even better images and videos. It's also compatible with rechargeable batteries (Eneloop Pro recommended), and if you want great videos this (or the Spec Ops Elite HP5) is the one to get!

As with many of the other great wildlife cameras that are available at the moment, the Recon Force Edge from Browning has a built-in motion sensor which can be used to trigger it to snap photos or start recording video when something enters its field of view.Note: Although rechargeable batteries (of at least 2500mAh) can be used with trail cameras, they are not recommended due to their lower capacity and voltage. Therefore they are unlikely to operate the camera at its full potential, or as reliably when compared with standard lithium batteries. If the use of rechargeable batteries is necessary we recommend Panasonic Eneloop Pro batteries which have been shown to perform well with trail cameras.Additionally, we recommend using an SD card with a minimum write speed of 10MB/s (also labelled as U1 or class 10). Don't use Duracell or some other alkaline batteries as their high internal resistance makes them unsuitable for trail cameras. The Browning Strike Force HD Pro X for example is an extremely versatile, sturdy work-horse of a trail camera. Released in 2019, it is s a great all-rounder – good photo, good video, fast triggers, strong detection, great build quality. It is especially good for ecology / scientific survey work for these reasons, as well as being a slightly lower cost than the other trail cameras mention in this article. It’s also one of Which? Magazines recommended trail cameras (written prior to the HP5 camera was released). There is a no-glow version too – the Dark Ops HD Pro X. So far, we’ve seen two new offerings released from Browning Trail Cameras; the Recon Force Edge and Spec Ops Edge. Another downside, the camera does not have a PIR sensitivity option, and false triggers are too common during warmer temperatures.

I recommend the Eneloop Pro low self-discharge rechargeable batteries for the Acorn & Browning Elite HP4 cameras and these are the ones I supply with my Acorn & Browning Elite HP4/HP5 camera bundles. We absolutely love the video and audio quality on the Recon Force Elite and Spec Ops Elite cameras. The Strike Force Pro X 1080 is extremely versatileand a great all rounder. All Browning trail cameras feature fast trigger speeds and forward-facing colour screens. These are particularly useful when setting up the camera to ensure the wildlife will be perfectly framed! This camera is very easy to use and produces very good images and videos for the price (though nowhere near as good as the Recon Force and Spec Ops Elite HP4/HP5 models - the Command Ops Elite 22 has 30fps video compared to 60fps for Recon Force, Spec Ops & Patriot). Given the above, it’s probably no big surprise to say that our favourite wildlife trail camera for 2022 is the Browning Recon Force Elite HP5. This camera is also available as a starter bundle whichincludes the trail camera, 8 x lithiumAA batteries and a 32GB SD card.We generally use the camera on the High resolution – the quality isn’t really much different, and at 30fps is still very smooth – just to help with the file sizes. The previous version of this wildlife camera was used on BBC Springwatch and the new version doesn’t disappoint. To power the Recon Force 4K EDGE, you need 8 AA batteries. This hunting companion is relatively economical when it comes to battery consumption. Assuming that you are using high-quality batteries and depending on your settings and the amount of activity in the area it isn’t unreasonable to expect to get four months out of a set of batteries before you need to think about replacing them. For the best performance and longest battery life, we suggest using high-quality lithium batteries like Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries. You can now set the Edge cameras to operate during specific periods of the day; avoiding the dog in the garden, you hanging the washing out or the pigeons in the early morning. This in turn saves SD card space and battery life. The new Radiant 5 nighttime illumination technology produces a powerful flash making this camera an excellent choice for those users looking for superb nighttime imagery.
