About this deal

The two meet after escaping their bonds, just as a large number of SUV's arrive. A brief meeting fight ensues before they escape. Moira is a character who I eventually grew to admire and like. I enjoyed the way the author developed her character. What was especially enjoyable was that she didn't fit a stereotypical heroine. This provided and refreshing concept and read. Once Shep takes Jilly's foresight of danger "up there" to stop 3 gunmen in a church from killing a bride & groom with their own assault rifle "butts", Jilliy miraculous stops the 3rd gunman "up there" & vanishes before anyone seeing her? I wasn't a huge fan of most of the characters but I did grow to like some of them for them to do something that had me changing my mind. There was so many different characters that it was hard for me to keep up. What really bugging me about Moira was that I had no idea how old she was so I couldn't tell if she was acting her age or anything. She did come of a bit bratty at times but then there was times when I really felt sorry for her. Owain was one of the few characters that I liked pretty much constantly even if there was one thing that he did that I wasn't happy about.

By the Light of the Moon is a story about a young woman named Moira. She is a lady, but she hates it. She feels like she is in a prison and tried whatever she can to leave. People think she is quite strange because of how she doesn't act like what they think a lady should. Not to mention, her appearance is sort of ghostly and she has dark marks under her eyes. There are men who are interested. One in particular, Sir Deagan Fairester, is very desperate to have her so he can get her father's land. But due to Moira's little walks, her father hires a Blaidyn named Owain. Owain is a warrior and a werewolf. Everyone is afraid of their kind, but he must watch over Moira. She is careful around him, but she finds that she can trust him. But can he trust her? As DHS gets increasingly out of hand, the Joint Chiefs stage a military coup, assassinating Obama and his entire cabinet, then skipping the line of succession, name the Chief of Naval Operations the new President. By the Light of the Moon begins much the same as any other fairy tale; a soon-to-be-wed young woman is tired of doing as she’s told and living her sheltered life so she goes looking for adventure only to find it in the arms of a sexy werewolf. Laila Blake’s writing style flows well and fits the time period of this book nicely. I always enjoy a good forbidden love story! There’s great chemistry between Moira and Owain but I found that their relationship was, at times, overshadowed by the complicated fae plot line. Owain was ah-mazing. I loved him. He was the epitome of dark and mysterious and, wow, did he know how to use it. But, he was also so sweet. His kind might have a fearsome reputation, but he could be so gentle and sweet when he wanted to be. By the Light of the Moon was a great read, especially from a budding author. (Have I mentioned lately how much I love living in the digital age? We get access to so many more great story tellers than in recent years!)

Success!

This book might be Koontz's love letter to Stephen King. Not only does he mention Stephen King's works and movies several times, many of the plot points are very similar to ones used by King (I keep thinking Firestarter, but I liked this book better than Firestarter). But, at the same time it is a very Koontz book as it seems like many of his works focus on dark agencies doing dark experiments and the innocent people who get caught up in the middle (i.e. Dark Rivers of the Heart, the Jane Hawk series, etc.) In the January 27, 1976 episode of the ABC sitcom Happy Days, titled "Fonzie The Superstar", restaurant owner Arnold (Pat Morita) and Laverne and Shirley (Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams), stall for time by singing the song (very badly) onstage, for a teen audience waiting for Fonzie (Henry Winkler) to come out and sing. Shep's " folding foresight" warnings from the "present to the past" allow them to escape constant chases from these men. Shep's crazy riddles (ultra ray, infra Ray, violet Ray, etc.) creates stress between Dylan & Jilly when meeting but they grow closer as she begins to accept Shep. In Dancing by the Light of the Moon, Gyles Brandreth shares over 250 poems to read, relish and recite, as well as his advice on how to learn poetry by heart, and the benefits of doing so. In the late 1970s/early 80s this song was a favourite of the travelling Grangemouth No1 supporters bus.

Owain was able to let Moira be herself as much as he could and keep her safe, but he couldn’t protect her from the societal expectations. A lot of Lords wanted Moira for the fortune and lands she would inherit but one lord was more persistent that the rest. In addition, the Fae had an interest in Moira, so Moira became a pawn in a struggle she had no idea was going on. A final complication came as Owain fell in love with Moira. Each choice Moira would make would create a major conflict, but what would be best for Moira? The biggest flaw of the book is, traditionally, the ending. Koontz loves to write himself into a paper bag and then come out with some retarded solution to get his characters out of trouble( look, it's a bi-WHAM!). However, the ride preceeding it is really interesting and captivating enough, and at some points even touching so let's forgive old Dean this one time. We wanted a thrill ride; we got it. There's never been a better time to read, relish and recite poetry and Gyles Brandreth has chosen 250 of the nation's favourite poems for us all to enjoy and learn together.I've been reading Koontz since I was a teenager, and have always liked his benevolence towards his main characters. He writes about very bad things happening to very good people (which is not to say that they're all saints), and this makes you root for them and despise the villains with all your might. Owain is the embodiment of the tall, dark, and handsome persona. Sexy and brooding, he falls in love with the strange girl named Moira. Cosy Catastrophe: The impacts seem like this to the survivors, until Jeff points out the nuclear winter problem. This copy was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. This did not influence my review in any way.
