If you want to feel the sand between your toes, head for an afternoon at El Chiringuito. Set on a beautiful stretch of pure white sand on Es Cavallet, this place is pure Ibiza; beautiful white décor, fabulous people watching, and an extensive menu of healthy salads, wood-fired grilled fish and meat, and delicious sharing plates. If you really want to steer fully clear of the party scene, the places to avoid in Ibiza are San Antonio and Playa D’en Bossa. These areas can get quite hectic. Although the latter still has some great spots to eat at the far (most southerly) end of the beach. Why it’s awesome: Eixample is the newer, more modern part of Ibiza Town. The name means “Extension” in English. It’s an especially great place for shopping, with a huge selection of stores selling almost anything you could ever want, need, or imagine. Brimming with soul and character, there are many eateries and bars. There are chilled beaches in the locale and the marina is a magnet for the jet-set and swanky yachts.

Classic Ibiza is an open-air celebration of White Isle-inspired house music, reinvented by a 32-piece orchestra, headline DJs and live vocalists. Touring some of the UK's most stunning stately homes, this isn’t just house music – this is stately house music. You can have any holiday you want there, from a week of high-end relaxation to a hedonistic dance-til-dawn weekend. If you’re feeling particularly active, hike up to the highest point of the island for views over San Antonio and the Salinas salt flats. Sa Talaia is 475m (1,558ft) above sea level and can also be reached by a 4x4 if you’re feeling slightly less outdoorsy! Ibiza has made a name for itself as being the clubbing capital of Europe, but the island itself is making efforts to show that it has much more to offer than nightclubs and cheap shots, which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Old stone walls, steep cobbled streets and narrow alleys all focus towards the fortress, which towers over the city. Cross the drawbridge of Portal de Ses Taules into a quaint cobblestone courtyard before entering the Plaza de Vila – the main square.Embrace island living with a day trip to neighbouring Formentera. This tiny island – just a 30-minute ferry ride from Ibiza – is home to white beaches and an original hippie vibe, making it a popular place to escape from the crowds of the White Isle. From its location at the much more tranquil southern end of Playa d'en Bossa, Coco Beach is a classy beach club offering superb cuisine, stunning sea views, and highly attentive service. Add to that its trendy fashion boutique, cutting-edge pop-up art gallery and great sounds and you have all the ingredients for a day (or night) of luxurious dining and pampering! Set up for the day on Playa Mijorn or Playa Ses Illetes, munch on some fresh coconut or pineapple from the beach vendor and enjoy a relaxing, quiet day in the sun. Some are sleek and suave, while others embrace the island’s natural beauty and bohemian vibe. All are high in comfort, provide excellent service and are guaranteed to give you that true holiday feel.

My tastes had evolved by this point; I liked to sleep and good food, and my eardrums. The thought of spending a weekend cheek-by-jowl with drunk girls in PVC miniskirts shouting “oi oiiiii” to the deafening thump of relentless trance music was my idea of hell. It’s a far cry from the overt glamour of some of the more polished parts of Ibiza it is one of Ibiza’s best-kept secrets. Here you can have your fill of restaurants and bars, handicraft shops and fresh produce markets, plus art galleries and museums. At the far left end of Salinas Beach lies the true hippy spirit of Ibiza in the shape of the iconic Sa Trinxa beach bar and restaurant. Its famous green wooden walkway that reaches out into the crystal waters is instantly recognisable, and beach dwellers love to stay until after sunset to sip on beers and soak up the good vibes.

Some of the roads down to the beaches are pretty steep and things can become a bit hairy! I’d also recommend taking out full insurance for this reason. Watch Ibiza’s sky blaze with hues of red, pink and orange as the sun sinks into the Mediterranean Sea and you’re sure to feel peaceful on this beautiful Balearic Island. For families seeking a relaxing escape in Ibiza, Six Senses Ibiza is a luxury hotel offering suites to four-bedroom residences to cater to the whole family.

What to do there: Explore the beautiful island by foot, bicycle, or rented scooter, stopping to climb historic watchtowers to soak up the vistas, follow boardwalks through the undulating sand dunes, spot diverse nature, and discover gorgeous hidden treasures. Go snorkelling in the aquamarine waters to marvel at the rich array of creatures that inhabit the sea. If you look for it, there’s still a strong hippy vibe, yoga everywhere and wonderful hiking and adventuring to be had; welcome to the quiet part of Ibiza. White Isle-inspired house music, reinvented by our 32-piece orchestra, headline DJs and live vocalists So, where is the quiet side of Ibiza? Crudely speaking, the north of the island is the most untouched and hippyish and most of the well-known nightclubs and activity are contained in the southwest.
