About this deal

Next up is material. Read through the product description for Henry HVR 160-11 Bagged Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner to get an understanding of the materials the product is made from. Some materials will obviously be known for delivering better quality item than others. You might also have decided that you’ll only accept a product made from a particular material.

It doesn’t matter which tool combination you have on the end of the Henry, you’ll always get impressive suction providing you’ve not filled its bag. Talking of bag filling, our machine typically gets at least a month of regular use in our large family home before it needs changing. The combination brush head is wheeled and features an adjustable brush section. - Oli Woodman / Our Media So let’s carry on with our Henry HVR 160-11 Bagged Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner review and explore the product’s pricing. Just before we get into the detail of analysing the price of this product, we want to briefly highlight the importance of setting yourself a budget before you spend too much time shopping around for a suitable product. It’s all too often that we get carried away when shopping and find ourselves buying a fantastic product, but probably actually overdelivers on what we need and therefore costs a lot more than we should have spent. So spend a bit of time looking around at the sort of price you can expect to pay for products in the Vacuum cleaners category and use that alongside your own financial situation to set yourself a budget. Up your cleaning game with the Henry Pro Accessory Kit. Three innovative, versatile and durable tools for taking your carpet and hard floor cleaning to the next level. If there’s one thing you expect from a Henry, it’s the cute face painted on the front of the iconic red body. It was a cute touch when Henry first launched, and it remains an enduring symbol that gives the vacuum cleaner a personality and life. It’s easy to love this vacuum cleaner. This model of Numatic Henry comes with the same wand that features on older models; it’s a series of three metal poles that connect together. The curved section has an air vent on it, too, which is used to decrease suction power – the vacuum cleaner has just an on/off switch. We’ve got every reason to believe them and have personal experience of Henry vacuums going on for decades.

Part of the reason for this power is that Henry doesn’t have any motorised tools for agitating dirt. Instead, it relies on good old-fashioned suction power to pull dirt out of carpets and off hard floors. The three wands can be arranged in any way you like, with the bent end positioned at any stage. This gives Henry plenty of versatility for cleaning high or low as needed.

The next step was to try and narrow down our search even more. So we’ve already looked the prices of products in the Vacuum cleaners category. Then we’ve also looked at the prices of products from Henry. So this step combines the two and looks specifically at the price you’d expect to pay for Henry branded products in the Vacuum cleaners category. Henry comes with an extensive accessory set to allow you to clean every nook and cranny of your house with ease. The box contains:

The dusting tool made it easy to remove the DIY dust from a bookcase and the crevice tool got into the hard to reach spots. Going into it I thought I might miss having adjustable suction when using the hand tools, but I actually didn’t. It’s something to keep in mind though when considering a Henry. Despite regulations allowing motors of up to 900W, a Henry vacuum makes do with ‘just’ a 620W motor. This has the advantage of making it very energy efficient, as well as quiet - you can certainly clean around others without annoying them too much. The hose is long enough to reach quite far, but not all the way up a standard flight of 13 stairs - if you need more reach, an extension can be bought from Numatic.

How good at cleaning is the Henry HVR 160-11?

I measured the Henry at 408AW, which makes it one of the most powerful vacuum cleaners I’ve tested; even more powerful than the Stihl SE 33 wet and dry cleaner. Opening the air valve fully only reduces power to 314AW, which is far more power than most of the competition. When vacuuming carpets, although surface debris was removed, I could tell that the suction wasn’t strong enough to remove deeper dirt. And this was very apparent on a deep pile rug that still had visible bits trapped deeper in the pile, even after I gave it a thorough vacuum. It is possible to use a Henry vacuum cleaner without a bag and instead fill its tub directly though this is something that is hard on the vacuum's filter and ultimately its motor and should be avoided. Without a bag you can see just how simple the Henry's design is. - Oli Woodman / Our Media How good at cleaning is the Henry HVR 160-11? But don’t think that low wattage means Henry’s got no puff. The vacuum's extremely simple air path and design carefully adjusted over 40 years mean he punches above his weight. Older models had a twin-speed motor but there’s no need with this latest model, as the 620W motor is a great blend of suction and airflow with energy efficiency. How does a Henry vacuum perform on floors? It’d be easy to underestimate a cleaner with such charming looks, but rest assured the Henry HVR 160-11 offers serious suction. The 620w motor might not sound like a lot, but this vacuum offers suction that’s up there with the best in its class.

Both our experts (Petrova of Happy House Cleaning Company and Fola George from domestic services company WeCasa) recommend Dyson vacuum cleaners – and the incredibly high-tech Dyson V15 came top in my test of the best cordless vacuum cleaners. Sadly Dyson will no longer be selling cylinder vacuums in the UK as the focus is on their upright and cordless models, but you can still buy the most recent Dyson Big Ball Animal 2 Bagless Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner, and it has a lot to recommend it. AiroBrush140 - Compact, lightweight and powerful, the AiroBrush140 boasts all the powerful cleaning technology of the AiroBrush — just in a smaller size! Perfect for spotless stairs, sofa, car seats and all those other awkward spots. A Tool for Every Job - Henry's versatile toolkit includes: Combi Floor Tool, Dusting Tool, Crevice Tool and Brush & Mattress Tool. The first is brand. Looking at the brand of the product is often a really good indicator for judging product quality. For example you’d expect a much higher quality product from a brand known for providing excellent quality than you would from an unknown or even a budget brand. The brand of product you buy can vary in importance, from person to person. Some people will of course be much more particular about the brands they will use. Whilst others aren’t interested in the brand and are more interested in the overall quality or price of the product itself. Thankfully Henry is a brand that many customers have grown to love over the years and is very popular for items in the Vacuum cleaners category. The next step after looking at products in the same category, was to look at products from the same brand, Henry. Genuine Numatic HepaFlo bags are great - they’re cheap, readily available even in places like supermarkets, have a massive capacity and offer good filtration thanks to their fabric construction. We’d recommend using them at all times. Older Henry vacuums could be run without a bag, simply relying on the filter to protect the motor - but Numatic doesn’t recommend this any more and neither do we.
