Welcome to Kill Team 2.0! The new game is an exciting departure from 2018’s first edition and we’re here to cover every part of it. So whether you’re brand new to the game or a veteran Kill Team operative looking for a refresher or more in-depth tactics, we’ve got you covered. We’ll be covering everything about the game in the coming weeks, from the core rules and how they work to the Octarius expansion to how the game’s factions play in the new game. While we don’t have an exact date, they usually don’t reveal the boxes more than a month or so out. It is interesting they are putting these in Kill Team-specific boxes, but we could always see new 40k branded boxes for them at a later date. Values & Pricing For 40k Kill Team: Octarius Starter Box

In fact, this launch box will be followed up with major new releases every quarter – alongside substantial additional support in places like White Dwarf. In other words, there’s a lot more in the tank. Test the tables: If you have the opportunity, test the configuration of the tables before the event. Your local players will be glad to help and can provide important notes about what works and what doesn’t. Octarius had been the centre of a sprawling Ork empire for thousands of years until the machinations of a rogue Inquisitor sent Hive Fleet Leviathan crashing into it in the forlorn hope of mutual destruction. This spiralling conflict now threatens to draw in forces from across the galaxy as the Orks and Tyranids bloody themselves against one another and war spills out into surrounding regions of space. Vantage points with cover make factions with access to Silent Weapons too powerful, so you want to make access to those points very limited. One way to do this is to rotate vantage points so they aren’t likely to give cover (Thank, you Peter!). This gives you more flexibility and can help differentiate Drop Zones. You can also put terrain on top of a vantage point and just label it as unusable. I mean, it doesn’t really explain why GW moved away from just using inches on a ruler like absolutely every other one of their games, but whatever. Double-sided game mat

Kill Team: Octarius box contents

Scatter terrain is really fun: And it can lead to some amazing interactions. I love to have it on my tables. The first thing I read online about the new Kill Team Starter Set was: Kill Team: Octarius light. And I can see where this is coming from, because similar to the launch boxes and starter sets of the current editions of Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar, this is a trimmed-down but more affordable set based on an existing set of models. When enough Beast Snaggas come together to form an army of their own, or at least assert dominance over mobs of ‘lesser’ Boyz, they are led into battle by a hulking Beastboss.

We don’t yet know how much the Kill Team: Compendium supplement will cost at launch, how long it is, or what else it contains, other than thebasic “rosters and datacards, including stats for all the available operatives”. After that, the rest of the book is given over to rules, rules, and very more rules. There’s a huge amount of faction- and warzone-specific stuff contained in the Octarius book, so we won’t get into it here. It’s a heavy ol’ read, so not one for bedtime. Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team: Octarius Review – Wargear Seriously, as we said before this is fundamental for making good tables. You should also also mark the drop zones before building the table, if possible. Not only will this help you better understand how players will use the terrain, it’s helpful and saves time for players. Masking tape is ideal for this. Keeping Tac Ops in Mind

Kill Team 2nd Edition – beautiful books and bespoke brilliance

Still, it’s a fantastic set of Ork Kommandos and they have a lot of character and options to play around with which makes them perfect for Kill Team! How About That Orky Terrain There had been some speculation among the Warhammer 40k and Kill Team communities as to whether 40k’s small-team spinoff was, in fact, being slowly retired – given a somewhat poor reception to its most recent release, Pariah Nexus, in March 2021. When it comes to building the table, it’s not just about layouts – there’s also a question of the terrain itself. While you’ve got several options, the Ork terrain from Kill Team: Octarius is the perfect set to build around – it had a great mix of different features, was designed more with Kill Team in mind, and it just looks great. If you’re looking for a good set of terrain to start with, Octarius is going to give you one of the best experiences, and is great for players trying things out for their first games. W – Wounds– As ever, these should just be called hit points. This is the number of points of damage the operator can take before they are ‘incapacitated’. As you’d expect, the book is also filled with plenty of awesome artwork and pictures of world-class painted models. Kill Team: Octarius War Manual

The combat gauges need to be cut off one of the sprues, so be prepared to do that before you can start playing Kill Team. In this article we’re going to talk about how to build good terrain layouts for kill team, providing advice for both players and tournament organizers looking to do layouts for events. Additionally, note that we’re going to be focusing mostly on classic Kill Team games and layouts – while much of this will also apply to Gallowdark/Into the Dark play, there are some specifics around that we’ll cover in future articles. Unlike games of 40K, in the new edition of Kill Team matches have three phases: Initiative, Strategic and Firefight. Burna Boyz, Rokkit Boyz, and comms specialists add their own strategic options to the Kommandos, but you’ll have to wait to find out more about them – they’re still under deep cover. The idea is to add a level of persistence across the game, alongside more narrative flavour. Games Workshop has said you won’t have to opt-in or out, though, with Spec Ops players able to progress through their campaigns even when battling one-off, matched play opponents. There are no fewer than 11 sprues in the Octarius box. Now, you may be thinking that that doesn’t actually seem like all that many for a box this large. However, the majority of the sprues are dedicated to scenery, and there is some chunky bits of the stuff in here. On the whole there’s more here than we expected, particularly compared to the pamphlets that constituted Killzone releases in the prior iteration of Kill Team. How Does Octarius Fit into the Larger Kill Team 2.0? Shooting in Kill Team 2nd Edition has also had a bunch of tweaks which, combined, would seem to make the game much deadlier, taking cover much more important, and those increased wound counts much more appropriate. If you’re interested in hobby help, consider these guides for the wonderful models in the Kill Team box.

The Kill Team: Octarius boxed set includes everything you need to play games of Kill Team with the operatives of the Death Korps of Krieg and the Ork Kommandos .* We think it’s one of the best Warhammer boxed sets ever made, and it’s not the last you’ll be hearing from the new edition of Kill Team. Kill Team, as a skirmish-based variant for Warhammer 40k, has now gone through a total of fouriterations over the years– the third of which was when Games Workshop released it as an official, standalone game , complete with a distinct ruleset, bright orange branding, and starter sets composed of existing models and terrain.

As players get closer to the center they should have less cover to work with, but objectives shouldn’t necessarily be death traps, either. Put less heavy terrain around them and more light terrain to encourage combat and force opponents to climb to a vantage point to try getting a better angle. You can even have some objectives with no cover at all and let the players place up some barricades or leave it empty to spice things up! And about that… Barricades Finally, make vantage points relevant. Yeah, they can be a problem but don’t forget that vantage points are an important mechanical part of the game. If the players see them more as a nuisance or something to avoid rather than something important, we’ve messed up building the layout. Doors and Hatches As you might expect from such a dangerous-looking beast, Mozrog and Big Chompa are a force of nature in close combat. While he’s fully capable of commanding his Beast Snagga underlings like any Beastboss, Mozrog’s no-nonsense approach makes him an especially good spearhead for a massed charge of Squighog Boyz.
