Can he manage to do what has been ‘asked’ of him by said BAD GUY, while protecting all of his loved ones? I really enjoyed the plot; it wasn't too unique ive seen it in the selection series and others, but overall had a nice concept. It's the little things that kept the book great; the character personalities, events, writing style, etc.

And even if the director weren’t standing in her way, the steps involved in ridding herself if the leaky Suppressor are many and dangerous. Meanwhile, Katherine’s minions keep striking, making life even more difficult! And then Ryann and Finch’s other friends – Melody, Luke and Nash – try to convince Finch that he loves Ryann and what they are there to do. But Finch has no memory of anything. And (now) Queen Kaya begins to turn against his friends. Harley Merlin and the Secret Coven is the first book in the Harley Merlin. The book follows Harley, a nineteen-year-old girl with special powers. Harley can feel other people’s emotions. Thanks to her skills, Harley lands her first job in a casino where she can tell the cheaters. While she should be happy about her power, Harley has no idea where her power comes from. Her parents are long gone, and her father left her nothing more than a cryptic note. After years of moving from one foster home to another, it is hard for this teenage girl to trace anything about her origin. The Tower - a saviour and a prison. People's minds are monitored and their lives are defined by a score out of ten on their wrist. Negative thoughts about the Tower brings down the score. I experienced this book both in Kindle and audiobook format. The narrator is Amanda Ronconi, who does an excellent job acting out the dialogue for all the various characters, portraying with equal skill male and female voices and various national accents. rather than the author’s writing style, the plot or the characters that tanked this for me. Let me explain.

Firstly, because of the writing. Most of the time, I enjoyed it. I quite like the way Bella Forrest writes, but at some points... Well, it came across as immature and a little silly. I think if I’d read this book a few years ago I would have liked it more, but now... Together, they’ll infiltrate the flashy world of the magical elite in search of a rare artifact, one that will help them capture a poltergeist—the angry ghost of famed adventurer Ponce de León.So, apparently I've been reading this for two and a half months....I've read eight other books in that time, so this is probably more about my reading list management than the actual story. That's not to say this hasn't got its flaws. Harley Merlin and her band of magical buddies—the Rag Team—from the San Diego Coven are desperate to stop the evil Katherine from completing the second ritual, which will land her that much closer to her goal of becoming a Child of Chaos, an unstoppable, all-powerful being.

Bella Forrest enjoys offering advice to those who are aspiring to be authors. She encourages them to continue reading in their spare time; books inside and outside of the writer’s genre can give a raw outlook and arouse fresh thoughts for new advancements in the up and coming novel. Forrest recommends studying another language to expand an author’s understanding of grammar and their grasp on their native language. She also urges prospective authors to set a minimum amount of time devoted solely to writing every day. I also wish the author had invested in a good proofreader, but that goes for most self-published books I read. Few authors seem to bother with that essential step, so the grammar and punctuation can be spotty. The Harley Merlin series is not the worst I’ve seen, but it would benefit from a good comb-through.However, there were few things that felt random. For example, the romance between Grey and Liana was kinda akward, and Zoe and Erin liking each other didn't really go anywhere. I felt like if she were to include romance, it should have had more of an important role instead of just sitting there.

I don't mind Harley being rediculiously over powered because it means nothing if she can't control her power and Katherine gets stronger than Harley trains get strong. Building up to the final battle. Ok I'm good with that. The characters, diverse group of “looser/underdog” friends of the main character had so much potential, but they seem very flat and nondescript. Also, the writer literally used dialogue in the worst, most awkward ways as info dumps - and not for world-building at that - but character-building. Which brings me to my next issue. While there is constant movement throughout, this is not as much of a ‘breathless ride’ as the last two books, although it still manages to keep the reader guessing and wanting to find out more. Well I did like the premise of this story, but I had a few peeves with the characters that kept this from being a 4 star read. These are the big questions in this latest installment of Harley’s story. It’s a fun read, though I could have done without the chapters written from Wade’s point of view. His voice was so bland, it didn’t add anything to his character, or the story, and in fact, I felt it detracted from both. Wade described by Harley has much edgier and more interesting personality than the first-person narrator Wade in this novel. A pity.
