The old town is considered the retail core of Leeds, it extends south from buildings on either side of The Headrow to the River Aire. Kirkgate and Briggate are the oldest streets in Leeds, from which the city grew from. Briggate is home to several chain food and shopping chains, was fully pedestrianised in 1996 and connected the two previously pedestrian areas either side of it. From M621 J2 - follow the A643 before joining the A58(M) Inner Ring Road. Continue on the A58(M) and exit following signs for First Direct Arena. From M621 J4 - follow the A61 and then Marsh Lane before joining the A64(M) ring road westbound. Exit the A64(M) as directed by permanent signage to the First Direct Arena. Turn left onto A660 Woodhouse Lane and follow the road into the city centre before following signs for car parks.

If travelling from the M621 southwest of Leeds – continue past J2 and J3. leave the M621 at Junction 4, following the A61. Stay left to follow the A61 on to St Peter’s Street. Two new online maps have been launched to help Blue Badge holders and other road users navigate around Leeds city centre as major road improvements are carried out and completed. The area has a number high-rise residential properties and developments, including Sky Plaza and Opal 3. Altus House is the tallest building in Yorkshire. Joseph Aspdin (1778 1855) the patentee of Portland Cement used to live in the Angel Inn Yard which was then called the Slip Inn Yard. He sold his world famous cement from this yard.
