Whittard Gyokuro Loose-leaf: Best premium green tea If you fancy dipping your toes into the world of green tea, but not sure which green tea is right for you - take a look at some of our favourite green teas below and what they are best for. You never know, it could just be your new favourite brew…. mao feng green tea – the classic

The tea plantation itself is close to the mountain “Jiu Long Shan”, which is known as the “Mountain of the Nine Dragons”. This luxury loose-leaf tea from historical tea-shop Whittard is best suited to general tea-lovers and green tea enthusiasts – with a pouch containing only highly quality Gyokuro tea leaves. A delicate shade-grown leaf, Gyokuro is considered by many to be the highest-grade variety of tea in its native Japan, standing head and shoulders above more standard varieties like sencha. The revival of green tea is very much in full swing, with the young, the not so young and pretty much everyone in between firmly jumping aboard the green tea train. And who can blame them!? We love green tea – it’s one of the most diverse tea groups out there, and above all, tastes amazing. We for one are THRILLED to see green tea finally taking up lots of well-deserved shelf space in the supermarkets. Green tea contains catechins that help fight free radicals and reduce oxidative stress that damages body’s cells. Damaged cells may be a cause of many health problems. Camellia sinesis plant is the only plant in the world with very high levels of EGCg. This catechin is the most abundant in green tea. 2. Anti inflammatory activityGreen tea consumption is booming everywhere, as more of us discover its subtle yet complex flavours and its many health benefits. Our extensive collection of luxury loose-leaf tea includes many highly sought-after varieties from China, Japan and Sri Lanka, including coastal-grown Sencha, Ceylon gunpowder and Chinese Dragon Well.

The growing conditions contribute towards a taste which is soft and aromatic; and the dark green leaves release a fine bouquet. EGCg and caffeine may help with weight loss [7] by reducing calorie intake, increasing fat burn, and preventing the formation of new fat cells [8]. However, it’s important to know that green tea may offer the best benefits only when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise. 6. Promoting hair growth Jasmine pearls is one of our most special teas – it’s incredibly delicate, with a light, floral, refreshing, natural jasmine taste. If floral is your thing, definitely give our jasmine pearls a try.

How do you make Mao Feng green tea?

This tea is grown at the foot of Huangshan ‘Yellow Mountain’ (黃山) mountain range, an area that is famous for green tea production. Huangshan not only happens to be a popular tourist destination in China but is also an ideal location for tea growing. The cool and misty climate as well as mineral rich soil combine to produce flavoursome teas that have a high level of theanine and are rich in tannins and vitamins. Mao Feng (毛峯) translates into English as ‘Fur Peak’, referring to the small white hairs that cover the young dry leaves. So the full name of Huang Shan Mao Feng green tea is normally translated into English as ‘Yellow Mountain Fur Peak’.

Louise says: This tea is special, unlike any other green tea on the market. A green tea liked by people who don’t like green tea…. The first step towards great hair may be brewing yourself a cup of green tea. A study on mice showed that green tea polyphenolic compounds may help regrow lost hair [9] and even prevent losing hair in the first place. [10] 7. Promoting bone health Place one teaspoon per cup into an infuser, filter or teapot. Switch the kettle off, before it boils, when you hear the water rumbling. Add the hot, but not boiling, water and infuse for 3 minutes. Serve immediately or remove leaves to prevent spoiling. Ingredients While many already love green tea for its herbaceous, earthy flavour, it can be hard for newcomers to find the right introduction to the drink. Low-quality or badly prepared green tea can have an unpleasant, bitter taste – miles away from the nutty, vegetal profile you should be getting. Beyond that, there are many forms green tea can take, as well as variations in taste and preparation method based on country and region. Our Mao Feng Green Tea has been sourced from an old tea garden with its leaves harvested in April at an altitude of 600mm above sea level.Good if you’re feeling: Rough on the inside and even worse on the outside; green tea and mint are a great cure-all.
