About this deal

This is a tale of a marriage that has each partner keeping secrets that lead to lies that ultimately poison the relationship and after a tragedy, the marriage implodes. Ms. Parks does an excellent job of keeping the reader engaged with plot twists that can completely change their perspectives. I feel she also does an excellent job of describing the fall from functional alcoholic to nonfunctioning. Yes, most of the problems, except for Simon’s alcoholism could have been solved if they just told the truth as problems occurred, but that does not happen until “The End”. What is there not to like about this book? There are secrets galore and you never know what will happen next, which keeps you guessing until the end. Lies Lies Lies tells the story of a family - Simon, Daisy and their daughter Millie. Falling pregnant with Millie was a struggle for the couple and trying for a second is proving to be just as hard. Attending an IVF appointment changes Simons world and he starts to drink a lot more. Simon becomes increasingly more reliant on alcohol and their marriage starts to feel the strain. But it is one night after a friends party that a horrific incident occurs and both of their lives are shattered. Simon and Daisy seem like a happy couple with their daughter Millie. They had tried to conceive for several years and she is very special to them. Simon has always loved a drink but now his drinking has spiralled out of control which leads to a dangerous accident. Well, I really want to scream at Dora as soon as she said yes to Daniel. And when they arrive at the château, she meets with Daniel’s eccentric friends who act like they see an exotic creature as soon as they say hi to her. And one of them is a very dangerous man! Dora absolutely knows who he is!

An astonishing achievement, Parks gets better and better. The queen of the unpredictable thriller' Gillian McAllister, Wrong Place Wrong Time With a title of Lies, Lies, Lies, it’s clear that there will be secrets galore, some of them close to the surface, just waiting to be discovered, whilst others are deeply buried and closely guarded. she’s had bouts of terrible hallucinations and intense paranoia. She threw things at me when I went into her room, she thought I was an undertaker and had come to measure her up.

A week at a beautiful chateau in the south of France—it should be a straightforward final job for Dora. She’s a smart, stunning, and discreet escort, and Daniel has paid for her services before. This time, all she has to do is to convince the assembled guests that she is his girlfriend. Dora is used to playing roles and being whatever men want her to be. It’s all about putting on a front. Lies Lies Lies by Adele Parks absolutely blew me away with its deep dive into the mechanics of a dysfunctional marriage. This one is well-written, sharply observed, and so much more than your typical, predictable dark domestic drama. I could not put this down for a moment. This was fast and fun and easy to read in a single setting as I had a hard time putting it down. I actually liked the narrator, Dora, with alol her inner musings. Sure, some of the crazy stuff that happens in France seemed to stretch my credulity but I just went with it. The climax was a bit surprising and yes, I did hope it would all turn out OK for Dora.

His drinking gets a whole lot worse! This is where I stop as i don't want to risk giving anything more away! As always with Adele Parks, One Last Secret is whip-smart, original and utterly compelling' Peter James, Left You Dead Dora goes on one last girlfriend experience (without the sex) to a super secluded mansion in the south of France. She is gaslit, drugged, and raped while drugged. She does not figure out that her “naps” right after politely eating or drinking something forced on her mean she was drugged even though it happens multiple times. The guy who beat her up is an employee of her daughter’s father who has brought her out there to be murdered by that employee. He’s dad having been a heavy drink and for the impressionable young child leads to so many ill judged choices. When taken as a whole, the storyline isn't all that surprising in the end. I pretty much called everything that was going on. That said, it's still a uniquely told story from an interesting point of view. I don't typically like first person storylines because it's too much "I did this and I did that" rather than letting us in on the action, but in this case it really works. The story centers heavily around Simon’s drinking, and my heart was breaking with the lies he tells, and Daisy accepts. With every turn of the story, more lies and secrets are revealed. The suspense rises, and tension increases with each turn right up to the end. The other characters in the novel don’t fare much better. Daniel and Evan are the secondary key players and are simply whatever the plot needs them to be. On the plus side, Daniel’s inexplicable and superficial nature is explained toward the end of the text. Evan, however, is simply surreal throughout the novel. We know he adores Dora and that they are emotionally close, but while we are told that over and over we never really see what it is that unites them. Given their relationship is pivotal to the story, not having that crucial information really hampers the narrative.

Daisy and Simon have spent years trying to have a baby, after so much heartache and failed attempts at fertility treatment they finally conceived naturally and the beautilly charismatic Millie is born. Will definitely be on the look out for Adele Parks next book with bated breath. This is my first but definitely not the last I will read of hers. Ever wondered what the classic film Pretty Woman would be like if it was actually a dark noir? Adele Parks provides the answer to that question in her latest thriller One Last Secret. Dora can’t resist taking one last job - escorting a regular to a French château and pretending to be his girlfriend. No sex allowed. Surely that’s fine?At the funeral, Dora learns fiancé can swim and just let his dad die for torturing her. No one in super wealthy connected family is bothered that she’s a former escort so yay for her. It didn’t take long for me to invested in Dora’s story. As a ‘lady of the night’, Dora’s frank, blunt narrative is very honest and it felt like she was talking directly to me as a reader. Like a confessional, Dora makes it clear that her life is not glamorous and that she accepts the criticisms behind her profession. However, money is the driving force and Dora shows she is not embarrassed by what she does: she is embarrassed because she does not know what she would do instead with her life. There are some difficult subjects such as alcoholism, fertility treatments, depression, but Adele has handled them with the right amount of sensitivity to still make a relevant impact.
