About this deal

You can easily set up heating schedules. For example, the heating can be turned off in all the rooms but the office during the day, and then be turned on low in the bedrooms and higher in the living room during the evening. As a result, Vestemi says not to use Radbots where light is limited, so they’re a no-go where you’ve got radiators behind furniture, radiator covers or the like. Radbot is recommended in the main living areas of your home: kitchen, living room and bedrooms. In addition, Radbot gets used to your interactions: when you change the temperature dial and when you hit the boost button. If you have a regular schedule, you may well benefit from being able to program a heating schedule.

You can set the temperature of each room using the thermostatic radiator valves. However, as seen on the diagram, the valves can't communicate with the smart thermostat or your smartphone, so you will have to change them manually. There’s also a Boost button on top. Press this and the Radbot opens up the valve fully for 30 minutes, letting you warm a room faster. However, if you don't own a smartphone or don't like using one, you're unlikely to get the full benefit out of a smart radiator valve. But we don’t. We have an oil boiler. Want to know how much oil we’ve got left? Go and stare at the plastic tube up the side of it.

In practice, it was really weird finding the radiator pretty cold if I ever got up in the middle of the night, but then blasting away just before my husband normally gets up in the morning, without having to programme the central heating. Since launch, Tado has updated the apps and web interface to add a new heating scheduler, so you can choose the home temperature that you want hour by hour. There are also options for when you’re out – choose from maximum savings (which may mean you return to a colder home) or maximum comfort (you’ll spend more to keep your home warmer). The app is simple to use, making the Tado Smart Thermostat one of the easiest systems to program.

Secure Radbot 1 Intelligent Thermostatic Radiator Valve - White - RADBOT1

This simple installation means that the Radbot can be installed in practically any home that uses a wet heating system, even if you’re renting, have an old boiler that won’t work with more modern heating systems, or have a heating system that doesn’t have smart radiator valves, including any product on our Best smart thermostat list, such as the Nest Learning Thermostat. Features The most interaction you’ll have with the Radbot is setting the dial to change the temperature setting. This has been made a little more complicated than necessary. In the manual, it says that the mid-position (3) is set to 19ºC, then each half step adjusts the temperature by +/- 1ºC and each full number adjusts the temperature by +/- 2ºC. Built-in frost and humidity detection protect your home from frozen pipes, dampness and water leaks. Batteries are set to last for up to two years. When the red light stops flashing on turning on Boost mode, or your radiator is always on max, simply unscrew the Radbot, slide out the panel at the rear and replace the batteries. Why buy it? Inside, there’s the real intelligence. Over time, the Radbot, which is based on the OpenTRV standard, learns how you use different rooms, and turns them down when you’re away and up when you’re inside. If you need a simple, yet smart, upgrade to your heating system then the Radbot could be for you. Design and build quality

We reached out to the biggest brands to find out more about support policies, and some are far better than others. Smart radiator valves are great if you want complete control and transparency over how much you're using your heating. I’ve blogged before about how we braced ourselves for more expensive energy bills after moving to the country. Much as I love our house, it’s far from energy efficient. Yup, the Georgians weren’t big on PVC double glazing or cavity wall insulation.lt;p>Why heat empty rooms when you can fit radbot 1 instead of wasting money and energy? No need for complicated schedules, smart thermostats, or applications. It can be installed in a matter of minutes without the need for an electrician or heating specialist, saving you even more money and hassle. Radbot 1 offers intelligent heating made simple. Simply install, set and forget.</p> Unlike much of the tech we review, smart thermostats are one category of products that truly benefit from being tested all-year round. For this reason, our Home Technology Editor David Ludlow runs four systems in different locations on a permanent basis. This allows him to continue to compare the different smart systems as time goes by. However, you won't get the 'smarter' functions or complete heating control that's possible with a smart thermostat and smart radiator valve setup. Finish your home's heating system with the Radbot 1 from Secure. Radbot 1 is a new type of intelligent thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) that continuously adapts to how you utilise a room and optimises the heat pattern to keep you warm and conserve energy. Each Radbot 1 controller contains a cutting-edge artificial intelligence (self-learning) system that can recognise and anticipate occupancy patterns, allowing the heating to be adjusted to the level of occupancy in any room. Applications: retrofit installations, control of individual radiators, room by room heating zones, wet central heating systems including gas & oil boilers & heat pump

Ultimately, it depends what you want smart heating for to decide if it's worth getting. Smart radiator valves offer high levels of control, but that doesn't suit everyone. Smart radiator valve pros But for me, the big attraction is that once in place, Radbots learnt when our heating needs to be on and off without me doing anything else at all. No company has as much experience in the heating arena as Honeywell, so it’s no surprise that its first smart product offering has been extremely comprehensive. Rather than replacing your basic smart thermostat, the Honeywell Evohome adds room-by-room control through smart TRVs, but also supports underfloor heating and even heat pumps. Consider the size of the room, as larger spaces will likely require radiators with a higher heat output or maybe even multiple radiators in some cases. If unsure, try our heating calculator, which will help narrow down your search.

The Nest Learning Thermostat is among the best-known smart thermostats around, and for good reason. This product has shown how powerful smart heating can be. Now in its third generation, it remains one of the best smart thermostats you can buy. You can also set the temperature of each room using the thermostatic radiator valves. In the diagram below: This is the set up a lot of homes will have. You can manually set the thermostat temperature, and it will turn the boiler on and off to maintain the temperature of the room it's placed in. This means you can remotely set the thermostat and smart radiator valves temperatures. You can even set the exact temperature with smart radiator valves, instead of the 'rough' temperature as you do with thermostatic radiator valves.
