About this deal

Ease of Use: You must let the saw do the work. If forcing this saw you will snap the blade! This goes for all the Silky saws I have used. I am a woodworker and faller/arborist. I have multiple Silky products and they last if cared for. It seemed expensive at the time but now after two years, it's clearly a bargain. I've likely cut well over 100 trees and branches on the original blade. The largest trees it comfortably cuts are 12 - 14" diameter. I can tell the blade has dulled a little bit, but not enough to swap a new blade yet. It takes me about 20 minutes to saw through a 12 - 14" Doug Fir. Almost all Silky saws are fitted with a specially designed rubber 'Gom' handle which reduces vibration and improves grip, reducing the danger of slipping in wet conditions.

Close to the blade: there is relativelylittle pressureon the blade. The saw will take the least wood, making you able to saw in a highly controlled manner and with precision. Generally you should experience fewer vibrations and use less effort enabling longer work and improved productivity. WARNING. NEVER CUT DIRECTLY ABOVE YOUR HEAD. Always consider where the falling branches will land on the ground. We strongly recommend the use of protective hard hats and glasses. Here is a video showing the saw in action. I hope it's OK to post this here. If not, I won't be offended if it is removed. The blades are made from a high carbon steel called SK4, this is a very strong steel but is also quite flexible, which is very important in a hand saw. The blades are also coated in chrome to give them some protection from rust and resin.

Hard chrome plating produces an exceedingly hard, durable surface. The blades are resistant to rust and the effects of resin. They are finely or mirror polished and wipe clean easily. Long well-balanced taper-ground blades with impulse-hardened non-set tooth design provide extended working reach, faster cutting and handles large limbs and small trunks with little effort.

The blade must be kept clean to maintain its efficiency. Resin dissolves in olive oil, which is an effective and environmental friendly way to maintain the blade with. More aggressive liquids can damage the rubber material of the handle. Silky Saws are manufactured from SK-4 carbon steel and cut out by a laser. The teeth are designed with no set which means they are formed inside the width of the blade - this reduces friction and enables a cleaner, faster and easier cut. Many other saws have teeth formed to project outside the width of the blade requiring much greater effort when sawing. Treat your saw with love. The blade must be kept clean, otherwise the cutting action will be lost. Resin dissolves in olive oil, which is an effective and environmental friendly way to maintain the blade with.Be aware that if you use more aggressive liquids it can damage the rubber material of the handle. The manufacturing process uses the technique of high-frequency electro-impulse hardening during which the teeth are heated and hardened. Importantly, only the teeth are hardened, not the rest of the blade. Thus the blade retains its original flexibility whilst the teeth have a life which is up to 3 times longer than that on standard saws. This saw is designed for general pruning of medium to large branches. It has a tooth style which will cut dense and sappy timbers with ease. It has a hollow ground blade, which reduces friction when cutting. This allows the cutting stroke to feel very easy and fast. And I know. I should have taken pictures. But did I really want further documentation of my cringeworthy experience? No, I think this testimonial is plenty for me. Ha ha. The blade is taper ground to reduce resistance giving smoother, easier, faster cutting performance, and the four cutting angles along the blade length leaves a smooth surface after cutting. This blade can rip-cut, cross-cut and slant-cut. During manufacture the teeth of the blade are heated instantly and hardened, this will enable them to stay sharp about three times longer than non-hardened teeth.

I have used various other saws including bow saws, other folding saws, Sven saws, etc. None have ever performed like the Silky. To beat this bad boy it's going to take a chainsaw! Extra Large Tooth: These are to be used as an alternative to a small chainsaw. Sounds crazy. but trust me, you can cut a 30cm log with one of these. Large Tooth: Large branches and sappy green wood are ideal to use this saw for. Medium Tooth: Great general purpose, can cope with small branches and okay with large ones too.As others have said, the blade cuts on the pull stroke, which is really nice and feels like much less work than the old-style tree-limbing saws I used decades ago. And as others have said, don't force the cut—the blade is plenty sharp enough to cut on its own, especially if you get the version with the curved blade. If you force the cut, you stand a chance of getting a pinch and bending the blade. I don't *think* I damaged my blade. Heh. The non-slip two-handed rubberized cushioned handle provides a sure and comfortable grip even in the most difficult operating conditions.
