As technology continues to progress and new standards are created, it’s becoming more frequent to find difficulties in achieving the result you want. This also applies to monitors. The everyday, casual, user might not be familiar with USB-C, DisplayPort, or HDMI, and it’s not always clear for them. A PC with USB Type-C connectors has larger power limits. The device or dongle you connected to has new features for USB-C that your PC (or phone) doesn’t support. You definitely don't want a 'charging cable' that only supports USB-2 speeds (480 Mbps), and power charging. These look identical, but are really much simpler cables, are usually the cheaper options, and are not suitable for video connections. I.e. they will NOT work as video cables. DisplayPort --- as the name might suggest --- is specifically designed to transmit video signals between your computer and a display of some kind, like a monitor, TV, or projector. Typically, that requires both a DisplayPort port, and a DisplayPort cable, but USB-C changes that. Make sure the device or dongle is connected to the USB-C port on your PC (or phone) that supports the correct Alternate Mode. For example, a DisplayPort Alternate Mode adapter should be connected to the USB-C port on your PC (or phone) that supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode.
