About this deal

The story mixes between informative and fun, with sections of interesting facts, mixed with some light hearted dialogue from the different insects as they search for the bees who have gone missing. De Luca PA, Buchmann S, Galen C, Mason AC, Vallejo-Marín M. 2019. Does body size predict the buzz-pollination frequencies used by bees? Ecology and Evolution 9, 4875–4887. Calendula – Also known as Pot Marigold, this cheerful flower helps repel whiteflies, aphids and tomato worms. There is a lot of humour in the dialogue behind the smaller flaps which also give information about other insects and how they are different from bees. Stephen Bennett uses earthy colours for the illustrations and there is so much detail in the pictures. The story takes us through a variety of environments including a pond and the vegetable garden which is our favourite spread – we love the giant carrot tops. The sturdy cover with its cut outs shows the insects that are included in the book, it’s a fun story for introducing children to different kinds of insects.Heinrich B. 1972. When it comes to keeping your haven bee-free, prevention is absolutely key. To stop bees from making a home in your lawn or garden, make sure they have nowhere to dig and nest. Fill gaps in walls and around doors and windows with sealant. Turn over large containers in your yard and fill the bottom with soil so that they can’t be upturned and turned into a beehive. However, a very peculiar characteristic of non-flight thermogenesis is that although it involves contraction of the indirect flight muscles ( Esch et al., 1991), there is little to no oscillation of the thorax ( Surholt et al., 1990). Warm up thoracic muscle activity is therefore relatively motionless. Esch H, Bastian J. 1968. Mechanical and electrical activity in the indirect flight muscles of the honey bee.
