To make the biscuits, combine Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free 1-to-1 Baking Flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda in a large bowl, then add the cubed, cold butter. Oat/Soy milk: I prefer using oat milk or soy milk for the vegan biscuits as it tends to be a creamier milk. However, you can really substitute any plant-based milk 1:1 in this recipe like almond milk, rice milk, etc. Remove the biscuits from the freezer, brush them with the reserved buttermilk mixture and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Place them into the oven for about 16 to 21 minutes or until fluffy and golden.

These biscuits also are delicious topped with butter, eggs, gravy, jam, or served with chili or soup! Here are a few great dairy free and vegan spreads to serve with the biscuits: Tip: It’s like the difference between red and green grapes! Same health benefits, just a slightly different taste. If making whipped coconut cream, cans must be chilled for at least 6 hours. You can also place a metal mixing bowl in the fridge or freezer to chill as well. Then slide the cookie sheet in the oven, set a timer, and… Don’t walk away. Shape and bake the biscuits Non-dairy milk:We like soy milk for our dough, but feel free to use the plant-based milk you prefer. Our homemade almond milk would be great here. The first ever chocolate bar suitable for widespread consumption having been created by J. S. Fry & Sons in 1747, in Union Street, Bristol, England. "Sweet sweets nostalgia". BBC News. 2008-05-28 . For dairy-free, use rich coconut yogurt such as Culina or Cocojune, or make whipped coconut cream.frozen coconut oil or cold vegan butter– using a plant-based butter will get you a buttery biscuit that feels a little more traditional in flavor, but cold coconut oil works too. What are shortcakes? I’m glad you asked! 😉 From what I’ve learned, shortcakes originated in the US. They were biscuit-like desserts, often with a texture tending towards dry and crumbly (like scones!) rather than supremely tender and airy (like traditional cake!). That biscuit-like portion was sliced in half and filled with fresh fruit and whipped cream.

Most shortcake recipes are made with drop biscuits on a baking sheet, while other more stylized shortcakes are rolled and cut into evenly matched biscuit circles.
