About this deal

Do not take NUROFEN® COLD AND FLU to treat any other complaints unless your pharmacist or doctor tells you to. Systemic lupus erythematosus and mixed connective tissue disease – increased risk of aseptic meningitis (see section 4.8).

It takes 20 to 30 minutes to work if you take it by mouth, and 1 to 2 days to work if you put it on your skin. Impaired female fertility: There is limited evidence that drugs which inhibit cyclo-oxygenase/prostaglandin synthesis may cause impairment of female fertility by an effect on ovulation. This is reversible on withdrawal of treatment.Experimental data suggest that ibuprofen may competitively inhibit the effect of low dose aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) on platelet aggregation when they are dosed concomitantly. Some pharmacodynamics studies show that when single doses of ibuprofen 400 mg were taken with 8 h before or within 30 min after immediate release aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) dosing (81 mg), a decreased effect of ASA (acetylsalicylic acid) on the formation of thromboxane or platelet aggregation occurred. Although there are uncertainties regarding extrapolation of these data to the clinical situation, the possibility that regular, long-term use of ibuprofen may reduce the cardioprotective effect of low-dose acetylsalicylic acid cannot be excluded. No relevant effect is considered to be likely for occasional use (see section 4.5). Cough and cold medicines are often used for symptom relief however it’s important to know there is not enough evidence showing they work well, particularly in children. Caution should be advised in patients receiving concomitant medications which could increase the risk of ulceration or bleeding, such as oral corticosteroids, anticoagulants such as warfarin, selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors or anti-platelets agents such as aspirin (see section 4.5). Combining NSAIDs with more than two to three alcoholic drinks a day for women or three to four for men increases the risk for stomach bleeding. Taking NSAIDs along with blood-thinning medications can also increase the risk for bleeding, including serious stomach bleeding. Talk to your doctor if you drink alcohol or take and blood-thinning medicines before using an NSAID. Others factors that increase risk for stomach bleeding include:

In children ingestion of more than 400 mg/kg ibuprofen may cause symptoms. In adults the dose response effect is less clear cut. The half-life in overdose is 1.5-3 hours. NUROFEN COLD AND FLU is only available from your pharmacist. Before you take/give NUROFEN® COLD AND FLU When you must not take itClinical trial and epidemiological data suggest that the use of ibuprofen, particularly at high doses (2400 mg daily) and in long-term treatment may be associated with a small increased risk of arterial thrombotic events (for example myocardial infarction or stroke). Overall, epidemiological studies do not suggest that low dose ibuprofen (e.g. 1200 mg daily) is associated with an increased risk of myocardial infarction. If you have not told your pharmacist or doctor about any of the above, tell him/her before you start taking NUROFEN® COLD AND FLU. Taking other medicines Antihypertensives and diuretics: NSAIDS and pseudoephedrine may diminish the effects of these drugs. Diuretics can increase the risk of nephrotoxicity of NSAIDs. Peptic ulcers, gastrointestinal perforation or gastrointestinal haemorrhage, melaena, haematemesis 6. Mouth ulceration and gastritis. Pharmacotherapeutic Group: Anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic products, propionic acid derivatives; ATC Code: M01AE51

Features of severe overdose of phenylephrine include haemodynamic changes and cardiovascular collapse with respiratory depression. When GI bleeding or ulceration occurs in patients receiving ibuprofen, the treatment should be withdrawn. Cases of ischaemic optic neuropathy have been reported with pseudoephedrine. Pseudoephedrine should be discontinued if sudden loss of vision or decreased visual acuity such as scotoma occurs.Anti-platelet agents and selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs): Increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding (see Section 4.4). If you’re looking for relief from the symptoms of a cold, fever, or the flu, you’ll find many over-the-counter (OTC) options at your local pharmacy. Clinical trial and epidemiological data suggest that use of ibuprofen, particularly at high doses (2400 mg daily) and in long-term treatment, may be associated with a small increased risk of arterial thrombotic events (for example, myocardial infarction or stroke) (see Section 4.4). Contraindicated in patients currently receiving or within two weeks of stopping therapy with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
