Having overcome my many years' dislike of sweetness, a whole world of lovely fragrances is opening up. I must be getting younger as I'm getting older.

When I first bought Loverdose, I thought I'd made an awful, expensive mistake. When it first comes out, the Liquorice (anise) smell was almost overwhelming and the citrus it mixed with was sharp and offensive to my nose. The drydown is more sweet licorice and vanilla smelling. At first I didn't get what people meant with saying it smelled like root beer, but I can see it in the drydown now. I don't really get the white floral smells, perhaps very slightly in the root beer smell. After about 20-30 mins, the root beer calms down to a more vanilla-y scent and fades. Looking at the notes I expected to hate this, but I tried it anyway and I was pleasantly surprised. I expected this to be one of those ‘gives a headache’ kind of scent, but I was wrong. While this scent still gives off a strong liquorice note, it stays fairly close to the skin. This is neither a love or hate fragrance for me. But I can see this being popular.

This a beautiful, sweet and crowd pleasing fragrance, no muss no fuss. I can see why it is a 'man magnet' for most reviewers. Having said that, you might not find it the same if you don't let it develop. It takes it a while to warm up but the dry down is absolutely beautiful.

I had to follow gradual steps to acclimatise myself to sweetness so that I could embrace Loverdose. I had to go to Office Depot about 45 minutes after applying. As I walked in, I kept smelling the most delightful aroma wafting up from one of the fragrances and was not sure which one it was. It was powdery, fresh, sensual and utterly beguiling. I followed my nose to the spot on my forearm where I had applied Loverdose and yes! That was it. I've ended up buying it online so it'll take a bit to get here, but I'll update my review when the actual bottle arrives.The whole hallway smelled like lover's can when you were there. I've always enjoyed that. That was YOUR scent" Loverdose is a bombastically sweet explosion of milky vanilla and licorice. One of the sweetest scents I have ever experienced, at least to my nose. But when you wait a moment for the fragrance to calm down and look behind the in-your-face gourmand notes, there is more to it. A fresh mandarin in the top to cut through the sweetness. A light spiciness. And last but not least an intense jasmine note that I didn't even notice when I was younger, but can clearly smell now. It makes the whole fragrance a little more chic.
