set-up the sacrificial orc (even if no other Mordor Orc models are within 1” of him when the fight starts) and, In Noldorin, the earlier version of Sindarin, the word for Orc is the same: orch (pl yrch). The Gnomish word for “one of a tribe of the orcs. a goblin” is said to be Gong. Goblin They were nearly destroyed in the War of Wrath, and those that survived fled eastwards into the Mountains of Angmar and the Grey Mountains (Ered Mithrin).

Dan: Mordor is a dark and terrible land, synonymous with all things evil in Middle-earth. It’s no surprise that the Dark Lord Sauron chose this place to gather his strength, for he has ruled it with an iron grip for more than an age.The International Astronomical Union names all mountains on Saturn's moon Titan after mountains in Tolkien's work. [5] In 2012, they named a Titanian mountain " Doom Mons" after Mount Doom. [6] With the right hero, these orcs are devastating. Lead by a Hero like Gothmog means they gain significant advantages. Especially when fighting their mortal enemies; Men! The time of the orc has indeed come! Final Thoughts The Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring: Uruks become available after a storyline mission in which Saruman manages to perfect his creation. Because they are so feared and reviled, Warchiefs can only be challenged through completion of a task specifically targeted at them, and are drawn out in the open by accomplishing its certain criteria. They will always be surrounded by a group of bodyguards, including one or more Captains, all of whom are absolutely loyal to their master, and deadly to his enemies. These Captains, in the event of their master's death, will take the place of the Warchief. As a reflection of their society's creed, in the instance of there being two or more living Bodyguards, the one with the highest Power, thus the strongest, will become the new Warchief. J.R.R. Tolkien, "Words, Phrases and Passages in Various Tongues in The Lord of the Rings", in Parma Eldalamberon XVII (edited by Christopher Gilson), entry B Urukhai, p. 136

It is not uncommon for names in Tolkien's fiction to have relevant meanings in several languages, both those invented by Tolkien, and "real" ones, but this of course happens with any two languages. They were faster than normal Orcs and could travel during the day without being weakened. They were not only faster but smarter, stronger and larger, though they were still shorter than Men.

Ringwraith/Winged Nazgul. A discussion of the Ringwraith abilities and which ones ones are best on foot or mounted is best left for its own article. It is sufficient to say that both are very useful choices are I would include at least One Ringwraith and one Winged Nazgul in just about any Mordor army I take. In particular I see no reason to ever take an Orc Shaman when for 25 pts more you can get a ringwraith, who knows more spells, has mastery 3 rather then 2 and a nifty special rule. In addition a word to the wise, be careful with your Nazgul, they are potent, but fragile. Following the abandonment of Khazad-dûm by the Dwarves, Orcs eventually colonised the abandoned halls, killing King Thrór when he sought to enter his lost realm. This triggered the War of the Dwarves and Orcs, a massive conflict where the Dwarves gathered their full strength and destroyed every Orc stronghold they could find in the Misty Mountains. This and the Battle of Five Armies greatly reduced the numbers of Northern Orcs, weakening their contribution to the War of the Ring. Also, there have been extended periods of time between the defeat of Morgoth and the final defeat of Sauron when Sauron was not active and could not command them. These times were as recent as TA 2950 (i.e before Sauron declared himself openly again) and were what Shagrat and Gorbag refer to in their discussion in the Two Towers: The Great Plague in Gondor caused the fortifications guarding Mordor to be abandoned, and Mordor again filled with evil things. The Ringwraiths took advantage of Gondor's decline to re-enter Mordor, conquered Minas Ithil, and took over the fortresses. At the time of Bilbo Baggins's quest in The Hobbit, Sauron returned into Mordor from Dol Guldur, feigning defeat, but readying for war. [T 22] War of the Ring [ edit ] Frodo and Sam guided by Gollum through the Dead Marshes. Scraperboard illustration by Alexander Korotich, 1984 Once the Ring is destroyed and the Orcs are no longer bound to the will of Sauron I think they'd find it difficult to find a new purpose. Orcs were notoriously poor craftsmen among other things and so I can't see them building any kind of civilisation after the War of the Ring.
