About this deal

Minnalis and Shuria are begrudgingly willing to share Kaito with one another, but they know that he loves the demon lord more than both of them and do not want him to join up with her. Anti-Hero: Kaito and his party in the current timeline, hands down. They enjoy torturing people. They raze towns and kill naughty children. And they will persist until the Crapsaccharine World they are in stops worshiping discrimination, slavery, and betrayal. Skulker. An unusual feat for paladins to take, this feat is suitable for silent hunters who stalk their prey through darkened streets and caverns. This feat is especially good if you’re playing a Dexterity-focused paladin.

Because of the power of your spells, it might be worth simply letting your Constitution score be lower than most paladins, and accepting that you’ll have low hit points. It makes sense to prioritize Strength and Charisma to fuel your physical and magical offensive powers, since this subclass focuses on hunting down foes and dealing sustained damage. And even though you’ll have to contend with lower-than-average hit points for your class, you’re still proficient in heavy armor and shields, allowing you to keep your physical defenses high, even if your Constitution is low. Suggested Build Fair-Weather Friend: Minnalis's human father seemed to be a loving one for most of her life. But she inherited her beastman mother's race in a Fantastic Racist village. When her race was exposed, he abandoned them and let them get taken by slavers. At 2nd level, you can choose a Fighting Style. You have four choices, each of which makes you slightly better in a certain type of combat role, but doesn’t preclude you from using alternative tactics. The Defense style is a good, passive buff; you gain +1 AC while in armor. Great for surviving, but not very proactive. The Dueling style is great if you fight with a one-handed weapon, and improves your damage even if the other hand is holding a shield. Great Weapon Fighting is useful if you like to fight with two-handed weapons, and can improve your damage even if you’re wielding a one-handed versatile weapon —like a longsword—in both hands. Finally, the Protection style helps make you a formidable tank, allowing you to deflect incoming blows if you stand next to your allies.

Girl on Girl Is Hot: Kaito notes that he would have enjoyed watching Yumis make out with her maid... if they weren't people that he absolutely detested, but as things are, it just causes him disgust.

Alternative Titles

The Hero Who Seeks Revenge Shall Exterminate With Darkness where the protagonist was betrayed by their comrades and suffered through many traumatic experiences, later becoming a powerful Anti-Hero/ Villain Protagonist that seeks revenge on their traitors. It's a slower, more consistent way to play. A 3rd-level paladin has three 1st-level spell slots. Let's take a roughly 3-round-long combat encounter. The paladin wants to conserve their spell slots, because they know there will be more combat encounters over the course of the day. Simultaneous Arcs: The first act overlaps with The Battle of Jedha and the last few issues of The High Republic (2022). Post-Jedha, Acts 2 and 3 overlap with The Nameless Terror (which takes place after the Path's Planet X expedition and follows the missing Path ship), Quest for Planet X, Cataclysm, and The Edge of Balance: Precedent, the latter three of which eventually lead into the Battle of Dalna from different perspectives. The Path of the Open Hand remain intriguing, and the novel provides many answers to questions that readers no doubt will have. However, there is plenty left unsaid. Some of this I feel will be revealed in time in Phase 3, the rest left to readers’ imagination. I wish there had been more time given to one revelation however, while the resolution did satisfy me logically, I felt a little more time spent building up to it would have been welcome. Evil Versus Evil: The protagonist and those he recruits to be his "accomplices" on his path to vengeance are vicious, sadistic, and spiteful, caring little about collateral damage and bystanders, but those they're up against are racist, xenophobic mass-murderers who have the entire country duped into thinking they're the good guys.

Framing the Guilty Party: Yumis carried out human experimentation during her magic tool development. Kaito uses a summoning spell to bring her victims into her lab and makes her servants disappear, making it look like she used even them in her experiments. Revenge Is Sweet: The entire story revolves around this trope. "The Evil Adventuring Party" were originally good people who had suffered horribly at the hands of society because of discrimination, enslavement, and betrayal from people they thought they could trust. Becoming sadistic vigilantes who seek revenge on the ones who wronged them, the Sword of Vengeance compels them to take revenge on their targets lest they feel the pain of death. The party's righteous vengeance is considered equally cathartic on both sides of the fourth wall, and while it's unknown what will happen if they run out of Asshole Victims, it's implied they will never run out of Asshole Victims. The last piece to the puzzle is The Mother, or Elicia, to those who truly know her. Path of Vengeance gives us our heaviest dose of The Mother, and rightfully so. She is the leader of the Path. Remember, the Path believes the “Force should be set free,” and any who use the Force for their good are manipulating it in a harmful way. They despise everything the Jedi stand for. The Mother has the Path so fixated on the Jedi as an enemy, the lines of communication and hopes for reconciliation appear to be at an end. Path of Vengeance delivers the goods on finally bringing The Mother out of the shadows and putting her into the spotlight. She’s conniving, power-hungry, full of hatred, and ready to wreak havoc. I hate her. She’s exactly the villain I needed. What the Hell, Hero?: Kaito receives one from someone he pitied as a fellow victim and it sinks in. While he remains willing to pursue Revenge by Proxy and inflict collateral damage to hurt his enemies, he agrees to stop killing random kingdom citizens out of Guilt by Association.

Reviews

She raised her spear and her glowing eyes glinted from within her helmet. “Make peace with whatever god you give your pathetic prayers to. Beg them for mercy, for I will show you none.” Oath of Vengeance Features

Those who have read Cataclysm know that the Night of Sorrow is the brutal battle between Jedi and Dalnan forces and radicalized members of the Path of the Open Hand. Then the Nameless creatures (also known as the Leveler) are thrown into the rain-soaked, bloody mess to torment and kill the Jedi.Fantastic Racism: Not only is the kingdom he's summoned to Human Supremacist, and the Beastman Nation supposedly beast-man supremacist, but they both are supremacist towards those summoned from other worlds to the point that they even agree to an Enemy Mine to take him down and Alesia openly calls him a useful "monster wearing human skin." In the original timeline, Kaito learned this far, far too late. On a failed save, the creature is frightened for 1 minute or until it takes any damage. While frightened, the creature's speed is 0, and it can't benefit from any bonus to its speed. That eternal fight of Jedi vs Sith is always entertaining but sometimes it’s good to have a different type of antagonist. The Path of the Open Hand might not wield the Force but The Mother has learned to weaponize an idea and the people that believe in it.
