Additionally, it contains the compound called pitera, a byproduct of yeast fermentation, which is associated with cellular renewal. However, I'm still in belief that rice can be beneficial to any beauty routine. Yoon tells me that rice water washes can also be used on hair, which apparently treats it to strengthening benefits, when used as a rinse. "You can also use it for your hair and it's supposed to be quite nourishing," says Yoon. "I've tried it on my hair and it leaves it quite soft, and I do feel it becomes stronger." My routine usually consists of double-step cleansing twice a day, so while the idea of ditching my foaming cleansers seemed extremely challenging, I was very eager to simplify my routine. Instead of piling on the serums and facial oils, I wanted to focus more on my rice water wash, especially since I was going to use it religiously for the next seven days. Now making the wash was fairly easy. Yoon recommended steeping organic white or brown rice in purified water for about 30 minutes, without cooking or boiling it. This can cause irritation, redness, and flakiness. As mentioned before, fermented rice water is more potent than the soaked or boiled variations. When using fermented rice water, dilute a couple of tablespoons with normal water and apply with a cotton ball or pad. Leave it on for a half-hour and then wash as usual. To make this mask, put all the ingredients in a small bowl. Mash well with a fork until both rice and banana are smooth and creamy. Try to get rid of all the lumps, to get a smooth face mask. Rice is rich in a complex of B vitamins called ‘inositol’ that helps promote cell growth, slows down the aging process and stimulates blood flow – the perfect recipe to tighten pores and brighten the face. Besides this, rice water also has moisturising, antioxidant and UV-absorbing properties, along with an ability to bind to naturally occurring copper in the skin.

Since there aren't any foaming ingredients to irritate or dry out skin, rice water toners and cleansers are perfect for more mature skin (or anyone that needs more serious hydration in their routine). Use it in: Milk face wash Soothing and hydrating: Rice water has anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe irritated skin and reduce redness.
