About this deal

Gemma’s reluctance to trust Ben is palpable and almost drained me, but in a riveting way. I felt sympathy for how energy-consuming fear, distrust and vulnerability can be, especially when motivated by a painful past. Given everything that Gemma had been through her feelings were understandable and I didn’t get impatient with her. I really did love her, she was so ambitious, smart and capable. She didn’t need the law firm to make it and she didn’t need a vet of Christmas Tree farm to be happy, but she did need to understand that the way Ben did. this book was the sweetest surprise! i'm a huge fan of EOR; Waking Olivia is one of my top fav/comfort books and every time i re-read it the book feels brand new 😭😭 i hope will and olivia are doing good in your head miss EOR 💘💘 She’s doing this purely for the money since she’s in way over her head with her mom and her sisters and all the responsibility that comes with them. She’s kind of dreading it too since Hayes is renowned for his playboy love them and leave them lifestyle…which Talia is forced to clean up on day one. She’s tasked with seeing off his lady loves and making sure they leave with flowers and a smile, and zero expectation of anything more. Fun, right? His mouth is against my ear. “Do you have any idea how many times the memory of you on my desk has made me come?” Only you would try to make that sound like a flaw,” he mutters. “What a fun night out you must be.”

Elizabeth O'Roark manages to weave stories that are the perfect blend of swoony romance and really hard topics. Yes, it's different. And I hate the author for trying to make it seem like what she did once compares even slightly to what he did for 7 years. It's a joke. No offense, but that sounds extremely dull,” he replies. “A good sex scene is essential to any meaningful work of fiction.”I really loved both Gemma and Ben and was so happy to see characters from the first two books make appearances in this one! All three books in this series have been amazing, and I can't recommend them enough!

I loved how Elizabeth O’Roark flipped the script with the role of the devil here. This time around, it’s the heroine who is the “devil”. Gemma owns my soul. I loved love love guarded characters who don’t let anyone in. Most of her trust issues come from having terrible experiences with the men in her life. Her father abruptly left her mother for a 24 year old and basically destroying her life in the divorce proceedings. To make matters worse, she unknowingly ends up having an affair with a married man. This not only leaves her heartbroken, but also leaves her without a job. You literally could not blame her for being so stiff. Men can be garbage and these two were real pieces of crap. Separation: Very small They are separated very shortly (a day?), but there was no mention or suggestion of other partners during this time. This can’t be a surprise to you. I’ve been in love with you for two years straight. You were the only reason I interviewed there in the first place." He rolls his eyes and mutters bloody Americans under his breath. “No, I don’t require cocaine. Just a bar and food. And music. And a valet, I guess. Two hundred people, maybe.” This was such a fun read and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I loved the animosity between Gemma and Ben but he was secretly obsessed with her the whole time😏.This also had enemies with benefits vibes which is usually not my favorite thing but I enjoyed it here. In general, I felt this book gave me more emotional highs and lows than the other two books in the series. I like this kind of exhilarating roller coaster ride, so for me that was a big plus. Even once the tension snaps and things get a little more physical, the always present anger and "hatred" toward each other doesn't disappear right away. But when they start spending more time together, Ben and Gemma both realize how wrong they may have been about each other. But Talia sees what Hayes tries to hide, that he’s running from his life by staying constantly busy, drinking his sorrows away, and losing himself on one night stands. She begins to take care of Hayes, and little by little gets him to shed his icy exterior. She gets him to eat healthier, to take time off, to experience a little bit of life. And as they grow closer, she’s starts to worry that she wants more of Hayes than he’s ready to give, maybe more than he’s even capable of giving. Gemma’s love for luxury-item shoes was another clever motif. It’s a great contrast to her mother’s poverty and to the barren starkness of Gemma’s apartment. It’s as if Gemma won’t give herself almost anything because her mother won’t take anything, but she does allow herself this one indulgence. In a way, the shoes stand for the part of Gemma that hasn’t given up on happiness, the part that knows that she deserves good things. And Ben is so turned on by those shoes and in addition to the hotness of that, it also parallels the ways he understand her needs.

But Gemma is determined to change the system from the inside and make the firm and the cases it takes on more equitable to women. She devotes almost her whole life to work. Her apartment is barren and she has only one indulgence, a collection of expensive shoes. She dreams of a relationship with someone nurturing, a vet or the owner of a Christmas tree farm, and a life straight out of one of the romantic, sentimental Hallmark movies she and her mother watched together when she was young. The banter in this book was unmatched. Two hot headed, witty attorneys going at each other (and then eventually really going at each other). There was tension, there was angst, even a little "touch her and I'll kill you" thrown in.Ben laughs under his breath, and my head jerks toward him. “Don’t you have a single mother you can evict somewhere?” Give it a talented writer such as O'Roark and make it more sophisticated and with two likeable main characters instead of minus one. h (heroine) rating: 2 stars. Gemma. I struggled with her, especially how she held other people’s behavior against the H too much IMO. And yes, I know it's a shirtless dude kind of cover and we all universally agree it's cringey by default, but I won't hear anything about this one because guy on the cover is simply G O R G E O U S.

The book is not safe for some readers because the hero sleeps with other women after he meets our heroine. I usually don't mind it but I know some readers hate it, so just be forewarned.I don't mind if there isn't any smut as long as they are horny for each other. And you could feel how much they ached for one another in this book. I loved their banter so much. It had me smiling throughout the whole book. The tension was so delicious and I couldn’t wait for them to finally act on their attraction 🤭. When they finally did, it was AMAZING 😮‍💨. c.) his somewhat-secretive jealous-possessiveness over her so he showed up on her date with OM and joined them the whole time, Y'ALL THIS MAN IS THE SIMP TO END ALL SIMPS. like he was so down bad but protective, possessive, and so hot. The running joke, among pretty much everyone here, is that my vagina has teeth. The Castrator, they call me. In theory because I often represent women in custody disputes, and in truth because I won’t play the game—I don’t bake cupcakes and make cooing noises over pictures of everyone’s kids. If a man doesn’t bake cupcakes and make cooing noises, you know what they call him? Senior Partner."
