About this deal

As well as being technically great, the Hario V60 copper cone is also a stunning piece of kit. Although when it comes to brewing your coffee there is a bit more than just aesthetics involved, the process is sensory in every sense. We hear the water filtering through the grounds, the aromas awaken our sense of smell and if you add a lovely copper cone you have an enhanced optical experience as well. Some coffee scales to weigh out your coffee dose. You can still use a tradtional coffee scoop, if you need to, but it's a lot less accurate. You'll need between 16g and 18g for a cup (220ml or so) for one You only really need a V60 dripper, filter papers and some ground coffee to brew a cup of coffee the Hario way. However, there are some additional bits of kit that will help you brew a better and more consistent cup:

Of course, no one should know better about how to brew on a Hario V60… than Hario themselves. For those who were too eager to get started with their coffee brewing to read the manual, here are the manufacturer’s recommended steps: Please bear in mind that not all manufacturers provide correct imagery and we may put a similar or alternative image to the actual product for illustration purposes only. The actual item you receive may differ from that which is displayed, for example the box may have changed or a model may have been upgraded or changed after we have added the product online. If you brew well (use this V60 brew guide, and you will – don’t worry!), your V60 coffee will taste balanced, clean and light. The light mouthfeel comes from the filter papers, which absorb much of the coffee oil and sediment. It also makes filter coffee the healthiest method! Plastic V60s are easy to clean. Give it a gentle rub-a-dub-dub in hot soapy water, using neutral washing up liquid.

What are the benefits of a metal filter cone for coffee?

With its simplicity, the V60 is one of the most versatile methods to experiment with your brewing methods to extract the most flavour from your specialty grounds. When you first start looking for your dripper, you will notice that the choice is very wide. You can choose between ceramics, glass, metal or plastics. You will soon come across the latter when searching for the V60, especially from Hario. Pouring hot water through the filters before brewing is extremely important! What is drip coffee? This depends on how we look at it. Technically, it is any appliance which uses filters and pours water over ground beans to make coffee. So it can be the Hario V60, Chemex, Wilfa Svart Manuell, Chomka, Melitta, Kalita, but also any no-name product. A brew ratio (or golden ratio) of 1:16 tells us that we need 16 grams of water for every gram of coffee. We use 320 millilitres of water for one-to-two cups of V60 coffee. So, because 320 divided by 16 is 20, we’ll need 20g of coffee. This is about 3 heaped tablespoons.

The first thing to remember when brewing specialty coffee with V60 is that you must wet the V60 paper filters to ensure that none of the paper taste gets transferred to the coffee. This also pre-warms the dripper and serving vessel or cup. According to him, the first 40% adjusts the balance between sweetness and acidity, while the next 60% controls the strength of the coffee. V60 Brewing Tips Here’s the goodie bag at the end (the best bit of any party, obs). Some bonus brew tips to help you get a perfect V60! Like Rao, James Hoffman recommends the plastic V60, but personally uses the Hario Drip Decanter, a glass carafe with a plastic insert. Hoffman also emphasises using a pouring kettle for maximum heat, using soft, pleasant-tasting water, and a high-quality burr grinder for consistent grounds. Why V60? V stands for cone-shaped filers, whereas 60 represents the sloping angle of the dripper’s sides. Simple!Other brewing components such as the water temperature, brewing time and the amount of coffee grounds you add will also affect the final coffee taste. Remember those V60 brew ratios we mentioned? Experiment with a few different coffee amounts to see which takes your fancy. A Coffee Grinder - manual or electric; we suggest starting out with a hand grinder first. You can of course use pre-ground coffee but this can spoil in a matter of hours.

If you're using whole beans, grind them to a medium-coarse consistency. This can be frustrating as eventually you just get a feel for what's right. If you're starting out aim for a consistency like granulated sugar. If it looks like table salt it's a bit too fine By changing the grind size you can speed up or slow down the rate at which the coffee will be brewed. The larger the grind size the faster the brew time and conversely, a finer grind will take a bit longer to brew. Faster brewing with the V60 usually results in a brighter, lighter bodied cup. What sets the V60 apart from auto drip filter coffee is this control over all brewing variables from water temperature to pour rate. So, which filter should you use for your V60 brew? It ultimately depends on your personal taste preferences. If you prefer a clean and bright cup of coffee, go for a white paper filter. If you prefer a more full-bodied cup with a hint of earthiness, try a brown paper filter. If you’re looking for a richer cup with more oils, a metal filter may be your best option. And if you want a smooth and sweet cup, a cloth filter may be worth the extra effort. The paper filter stand has a simple but pleasant on the eye design and will fit into any type of kitchen environment. The ceramic body ensures high durability and so you do not have to worry about replacing the stand again any time soon. For easy and convenient access to your V60 papers filters use the Hario V60 filter paper stand. Beginner’s Guide to V60 Pour Over In need of a one-stop V60 Brew Guide? Here it is!
