As a fairy, you’re trying to get someone to guess one word out of the 171,476 words in the English language. But if that wasn’t hard enough, you also want to give clues that out the boogeymen. Either by refuting their clue, or making it impossible for the Dreamer to get it wrong. Overall, I have a lot of fun playing this game.It’s almost always a hit with a crowd. Plus, the creative artwork, with 220 illustrations, also adds to the experience and the production quality of the game.

At its core, When I Dream is a simple party game that is easy to teach yet has lots of replayability. Before the player removes the mask, they will recount their Dream to the group, mentioning all the elements that they can remember. They may then remove their mask and tally their points. The Dreamer will score one point for each Dream card that finds its way to the yellow side, as will the Fairies, and the Boogeymen score a point for each card that finds its way to the blue side. The cards are then removed from the table, and a new round begins. END OF GAME The When I Dream Board Game is an imaginative and entertaining game that can be enjoyed by all ages. It’s premise is simple yet original, perfect for casual board game nights with friends and family. Players take turns being the dreamer while the others play as the other players in their dreams, trying to guess what they dreamt based on their ambiguous recaps! No one’s going to fall asleep (for real) at the table during this! Once the two minutes are up day breaks and scoring occurs. At this point the dreamer is given the opportunity to recount their dream by attempting to incorporate all of the single word elements that they have guessed during the round. Once the dreamer has attempted this, they uncover their eyes and all of the other players reveal their dream spirit cards.

Boogeymen always want the Dreamer to guess incorrectly, and earn 1 point per wrong guess at the end of a round. The dream cards on the board are rotated and flipped and placed at the bottom of the draw pile and the next round starts with the player to the left of the dreamer becoming the new dreamer. The game ends once every player has had the opportunity to be the dreamer for a round. We are the Music Makers…. If there is the same number of dream cards on both sides, they score one point for each card on the yellow side plus two extra points.

What I find interesting about When I Dream is how each role brings a new perspective to the same activity.On the other hand, as a boogeyman, you need to be subtle in your misdirection. Like a job interview, outright lying is obvious and you’ll be caught out. However, embellishing the truth, or some slight misdirection is fine, if not encouraged. A round lasts 120 seconds. Each round spirits draw dream cards that depict a specific part of the dream and describe them to the dreamer using one word each. I’ve yet to introduce the game to someone who didn’t like it. It typically offers a wonderful experience for a majority of players and a wide range of age groups.

Pro tip: Clever boogeymen will try to think of clues that relate to the dream card, but steer the dreamer in a different direction. Boogeymen score 1 point for each Dream card on the Blue side of the board (wrong and/or skipped answers).And actually, it’s quite the “brain game” for the dreamer. They will be listening, guessing and deciphering who’s who, all while trying to remember every guess they give.
