While we were v intrigued about the plot of the latest release, unsurprisingly the fashion team here at Cosmo were mainly buzzing to see Barbie's mega looks on the big screen. But here we were: myself and my reluctant but dedicated husband going to the local theatre at 11:10 am on a Friday. The theatre was about halfway filled with people wearing pink, ready to see the movie. A row of teenage girls in front of me in sequin pink skirts, headbands, and dresses. Two middle-aged women - one with a pink top and the other with her pink handbag in solidarity. Set in yellow gold, the pendant features the Barbie logo, adorned with 1.2ct worth of round cut pink sapphires. We felt that it was important to use the original logo as it captures the spirit, aesthetic and iconography of Barbie. To see the production budget so high really surprised me - and an equal marketing budget surprised me even more! I'm breaking down these exact scenes for you because it's important to log how color moves through a movie.

And we're including our mothers, daughters, aunts, nieces, and friends...our fathers, brothers, nephews, and sons might love it too, so we bring them in as well. The color pink is not only associated with Barbie ® but is used by various brands to market products to a female audience, contributing to discussions about commercialization and consumerism...What can bondpeople together for a cause, for a movie, for an idea, and how can one color be used to do it?To understand the impact of a color on culture, it has to be studied throughout history. Since Barbie ® didn't start with ties to pink, I had to dig into the history of the brand to see when the change happened and why. The Power Of Pink: How The Barbie Movie Generated A Worldwide Craze, 1 Billion Dollars + Over 100 Brand Partnerships Aug 11, 2023

To celebrate the release of the live action Barbie film, our fine jewellery and diamond experts recently created a collection of jewellery, titled ‘The Barbie Collection’. From television commercials to print advertisements, Barbie ®'s creators consistently emphasized the allure of her dream-like world, which resonated with children's fantasies. It wasn't always the way. As Kassia St Clair, a cultural historian and author of The Secret Lives of Colour, notes, the girl-pink/boy-blue divide didn't set in until the mid-20th Century. An 1893 article on baby clothes in The New York Times stated that you should "always give pink to a boy and blue to a girl." Pink was seen as the stronger colour – a relative of the passionate, aggressive red, while blue was the signature hue of the Virgin Mary. "My father was born in 1925, he's a military man and yet pink is his favourite colour and he doesn't see anything peculiar about that," St Clair tells BBC Culture. "But for me, growing up as a child of the 80s and 90s, of course, pink was very much a feminine colour, and I had it shoved down my throat. So for a long time, I completely avoided pink. I was fed up with it. I had a very complicated relationship with it." When it came to designing the earrings, we were keen to use pear cut stones as they represent a connection, such as the one that children all over the world have made with Barbie since 1959. Totalling 1.5ct, the earrings consist of pink pear cut diamonds and round brilliant diamonds. The court not once, but twice, sided with MCA records, saying that Mattel ® " cannot show that its use of the color pink has acquired secondary meaning'. Source. She wakes up from her first nightmare, showers in suddenly cold water, and retrieves burnt toast in a new outfit of the day - which is off-white with touches of blue. Which begs the question: can you really trademark something that has become a staple of society and inspired cultural references, reflections, and creations?

And who could blame us? From what we've saw before the movie made it to cinemas (you know, the Insta pics and YouTube clips), the London-based costume designer Jaqueline Durran has had quite the blast creating the outfits for the film. We're so here for the references to the doll's OG '50s and '60s looks (we're talking gingham prints and retro silhouettes) alongside sportswear and disco references from the '80s.

Set off on camping adventures with the Barbie camper van, create your own fantasy world with Barbie Dreamtopia and discover what you could be with Barbie careers dolls. Kids can play out all kinds of open-ended dreams with Barbie and Ken, Stacie, Chelsea and Skipper. The real world, on the other hand, was cold, dark, and without feeling. But it was real and invoked true emotions.

They have sparked debates, conversations, and changes in societal attitudes, highlighting the interconnectedness of consumer products, media representation, and cultural values. If you are still contemplating whether a Prime membership aligns with your needs, you can also make use of the free trial. This has been the case throughout history, but in a different way. It started as a color reserved for boys, as it was derived from red. As Ken tries to say goodnight, the lighting turns blue as she turns him down once again from the romance he so desperately wants. The marketing of the Barbie movie, in my opinion, was so incredibly successful because it was tactile.Barbie ®'s marketing campaign stands as a testament to the power of color psychology and its ability to shape perceptions, influence emotions and create cultural phenomena. And it proves that color is key to creativity, connection, conversion and a lasting emotional memory. Remember, magenta is all about boldness, revolution, acting differently...and we haven't seen the color in Barbieland ® before.
