By buying any Grayl product, you’re giving your money to a company that cares about our planet and its people. Award winning OnePress® global filtration and purification is effective for use on all 7 continents and empowers adventurers to drink from the world’s sketchiest freshwater. Aside from filter changes, you should clean the UltraPress after every time you use it. Cleaning involves performing a “dry press”– pressing the purifier into the empty bottle and getting rid of any excess water. Leave the filter for up to 4 days to dry thoroughly, which will prevent a buildup of odors and mildew while the filter is in storage. I found that with the Ultralight, after a while the press became very difficult to press, especially with the sort of awkward design of the lid. Grayl made an improvement here in a big way. The UltraPress cap is wider so your palms can use a flat pad to press down without the top lid digging into your hand.

My first gripe about the UltraPress came on a morning I wanted to use the outer cup on a stove to boil water. I never got to that point because the outer cup didn’t fit on any of the stoves in our camp. It’s just too narrow. In testing both purifiers, I didn’t notice a huge difference in speed. I tried each filter multiple times, from a fairly clean source and then a less clean source. I also found that the smaller surface of the Ultrapress didn’t mean it was harder to filter — the flat surface of the top might even be easier to grip. The top of the Geopress feels more clunky to me.

Materials: Titanium, BPA-FREE polypropylene #5, food-grade silicone, TPE and ABS food-grade plastic. If you have access to a dishwasher, most of the Grayl UltraPress is dishwasher safe. The filter isn’t suitable for the dishwasher, so make sure you remove it first. Removes waterborne pathogens including virus (e.g. Rotavirus, SARS, Hepatitis A, Norovirus), bacteria (e.g. E. coli, Cholera, Salmonella, Dysentery) and Protozoa (e.g. Giardia, Cryptosporidium, Amoebae).

For context, I had the cap on, and I opened it half a turn to vent air. I was using the filter press on a surface about hip-high. It may have been faster if I had pressed down on the ground. So filter times may vary depending on your method. Durability: CP4 Grade 1 titanium offers unparalleled strength to weight ratio and withstands 6 ft drops (full of water) onto concrete. Award winning OnePress® global protection is effective on all 7 continents and empowers adventurers and travelers to drink from the world’s sketchiest freshwater sources. Simply — Fill. Press. Drink.® Filters:Particulates (sediment, microplastics) and ultra-powdered activated carbon adsorbs many chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, VOCs, flavors and odors. On the UltraPress, there is a paracord D-ring loop that allows you to tie the paracord on, lower the cup down to the water source, fill it up, raise it, and be ready for filtering. A small feature yes, but one that oozes efficiency. Drink Mix ReadyTesting Standards: Independently tested by a certified laboratory to meet or exceed NSF/ANSI protocols 42 and 53 for sediment, pathogen and chemical removal; meets the EPA Guide Standard and Protocol for testing microbiological water purifiers. Of course, with normal use, the UltraPress “press time” will be longer as the filter gets dirty and clogged with debris. Generally speaking though, the UltraPress pressing-action is smoother and faster than my previous experiences with the Ultralight model and more closely reflects the user experience of the GeoPress. UltraPress vs GeoPress Performance? Filters particulates (sediment, microplastics). Ultra-powdered activated carbon adsorbs many chemicals (including PFAS & VOCs), pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, flavors and odors.
