On my computer, I have my primary monitor set to my GeForce GTX 980, and my second monitor is connected to my Intel Skylake adapter. So the Skylake adapter receives its display contents from the GeForce in realtime. The plug itself is not much in terms of circuitry, but that is the expectation. The EDID data seems to have been “stolen” from an AOC monitor and modified slightly, seemingly to prefer full HD but having the option to go up to 4K to ensure that devices which aren’t stable for 4K output don’t run into trouble. I suppose if you don’t like it, you could either shove wires into the device or break it apart and reprogram the EEPROM to whichever EDID you would like (e.g. change the monitor name, etc).
