Read through the instructions on the sealant before you start so that you know how long it will take to cure and how to get the best results. Clean and dry – Use warm water containing a mild detergent to thoroughly remove grime and residue from the area and then use paper towels or a hairdryer to speed up the drying process. They look great, work extremely well and there are now in excess of 230,000 in use in the UK alone without problems.

Step 4: Mix up building sand and cement to create a mortar. Spread a thin layer carefully over the area where the shower tray is going to go. Position the shower tray on top of this and use a spirit level to ensure that everything is completely level. Allow to dry for around 24 hours. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions – As a rule of thumb shower doors and enclosures should only be sealed around the outside at the bases and on the inside and outside of the vertical profiles where they meet the tiled walls. Sealing around the base on the inside will often cause a shower enclosure to leak. Carefully read the manufacturers sealing instructions before applying silicone sealant.Cut the application nozzle on the sealant tube at a 45 degree angle, ensure the hole is not too big. The nozzle will have marks indicating where and how to trim the nozzle. A 5mm hole is typical for the majority of applications, but it can be enlarged if a wider bead is needed. fifthly work that is outside of DIY capability is more than adequately controlled through building control, electrical safety, gas safety and planning legislation - insurers can rightly take issue with illegal DIY work, but not with perfectly legal repairs, and things like fitting kitchens, showers, tiling, decorating, and many other things etc etc are not things you have to notify anyone about, nor do they void your insurance. High quality silicone sealant– make sure it’s designed for bathroom use and that it contains an anti-fungal additive. Remove protective film from the edge of the tray to which the seal strip is to be attached but leave it over the base of the tray to protect the trays surface during installation.

Step 1 - Position the shower tray where you want it installed and make sure it fits into the space with no clearance issues. Screw the legs into position and adjust the height until the tray is at the desired level. Attach the tray’s waste outlet to make sure that everything lines up properly. If using a tool to smooth the silicone sealant, select the correct aperture size to produce a bead that will fully cover the gap between the shower tray and tiles. Wipe away any excess sealant with a clean rag before it dries. If you accidentally get sealant on your tiles or shower tray, use a small amount of isopropyl alcohol or acetone to clean it up while it’s still wet. Once you’ve got rid of all the old sealant, clean the area you’ll be working on – vacuum up any grit and dust, then clean the shower tray and tiles. As sealant won’t work on damp surfaces, make sure that they are thoroughly dry before you start work (we recommend having a cuppa while you wait for the surface to totally dry!).Sealant application tool (make sure that you choose the right aperture size to cover the gap between the tiles and the shower tray) thirdly shower tray installation is well within DIY capability. In fact a few years ago I actually claimed on house insurance for accidentally damaged tray and agreed with the insurance company I was happy just to receive the material costs as I would DIY the repair, and they agreed. In conclusion, sealing a shower tray is a crucial maintenance task that can help prevent water damage and keep your bathroom in excellent condition. By following these steps on how to apply shower tray sealant, how to silicone a shower tray, and how to remove old sealant from a shower tray, you can ensure a watertight seal that will protect your bathroom for years to come. Regular maintenance and inspections will help you catch any issues early and prevent costly repairs down the line. Step 7 - Get a kettle or jug of water and pour it down the shower drain to see that it all flows through without any drips or leaks.

The Chameleon wet room seal is an ideal solution for situations in wet rooms or shower areas where the flow of water runs out of the floor area it is not intended to. Cut the applicator nozzle on the tube of sealant at a 45-degree angle, taking care to make sure that the hole isn’t too big – a 5mm hole is usually about right and the nozzle should have marks on it to guide you. The sealant should cover the gap between the tray and the wall – if there are any gaps, carefully use a little more sealant to fill them in.Attach to the edge of the shower tray so that it is square and the edge protrudes at least 20mm above the edge of the tray. Use the right type of sealant – if you’ve used natural stone for the floor and wall coverings you’ll need to select a sealant that’s compatible with this type of material. Byretech design, manufacture and supply a clever range of Shower Tray Seals for all types of shower trays. We now do Vertical Seals to match too, so you can get your shower watertight.

Load the sealant tube into a caulking gun and squeeze the trigger to apply a steady and even bead of sealant along the joint between the shower tray and the tiles or wall. Keep the pressure consistent for a smooth application. Work in small sections, approximately 12-18 inches at a time, to ensure you have enough time to shape and smooth the sealant before it starts to set. The Chameleon wet room seal is made from a soft translucent rubber that simply silicones to the required position on the floor area - tiled or vinyl. It offers an discreet barrier to stop the water escaping the shower area. The translucent colour helps the seal to blend in with its surroundings and the soft hollow design feels soft underfoot. All in all a fantastic solution to a common problem! Byretech's Shower Seals are gloss white and are easily cut to size. We profile one end to make fitting extremely simple and even the sealant is included in the kit too.Starting at the same place you began to apply sealant, carefully and gently smooth it out – don’t apply too much pressure and don’t keep smoothing it once you have a smooth finish as this may damage the sealant and stop it working properly.
