Brazuca: the 2014 Brazil World Cup ball unveiled by Adidas

The ball is a developmental successor to the Adidas Tango 12 series of balls, with the same bladder and carcass but a different surface structure. [2] [5] The ball weighs 437 grams and has a circumference of 69 centimetres. [6] The ball has been made of six polyurethane panels which have been thermally bonded; the reduction in the number of panels is claimed to increase the consistency in the ball. [2] The Brazuca ball has been stated to avoid aerodynamic problems with the Jabulani ball used in South Africa for the previous World Cup. [7] It is textured to feel more like the Adidas Finale 13, the official UEFA Champions League ball, than the Jabulani. adidas have unveiled the Brazuca Final Rio - The official match ball to be used in the World Cup Final on Sunday 13th July in Rio de Janeiro. In 2002, when the “Fevernova” debuted for the Japan and South Korea World Cup, it was labelled a “ridiculous kiddie’s bouncing ball” by Gianluigi Buffon, while the 2010 “Jabulani” was described variously as “a beach ball” (Iker Casillas) and “dreadful” (David James), after its “grip and groove” surface on 3D panels appeared to perform erratically at altitude in pre-tournament friendlies. The design of adidas Brazuca Final Rio is inspired by the green and gold ofthe famous World Cup trophy and is a variation of the standard brazuca ball that will be used throughout the tournament up until the very last game. Our products are the focal point of our campaigns. For our biggest campaign of all time, we let the most important product of all speak for itself. a b c "adidas Brazuca – Name of Official Match Ball decided by Brazilian fans". FIFA.com. Ghani, Faris (23 May 2014). "The hands that formed the Brazuca". Al Jazeera English . Retrieved 14 June 2014. Previous balls have met with varying degrees of approval. A variation on the “Tango” design ran from 1978 to 2002, but since that 2002 World Cup in particular, both the design and the structure of the World Cup ball have been changed with each iteration, often prompting debate among players, especially goalkeepers and dead ball specialists, about how the alterations affect the consistency and flight of the ball.Brazuca was a storming success. Millions followed in the first week of the tournament. Brazuca achieved worldwide media coverage in publications covering everything from fashion to football; and built a community of over 3.4 million @brazuca followers. Lightning-fast real-time reactive tweets made its wit and perspective a part of the biggest tournament conversations, from France's flirtation with goal-line technology to Germany's triumph at the Maracana. The Brazuca from the 2014 World Cup lays claim to possible the best name of all, voted for by an overwhelming 77% of Brazilians in an open vote. Can imagine they may regret their choice somewhat after Germany used that Brazuca to absolutely destroy the home nation 7-1 in the semi final, imposing their fate from 2006 on the hosts in slightly more emphatic fashion. Clubs involved in testing included AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Palmeiras and Fluminense. Players involved in the process included global football stars Leo Messi, Iker Casillas, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Zinedine Zidane. a b "Nome da bola da Copa é escolhido pela primeira vez por torcedores: Brazuca" (in Portuguese).
