A Terrible Secret: Scared for her safety, Tilly places

The eleventh memoir and latest title from the internationally bestselling author and foster carer Cathy Glass. This book tells the true story of Cathy's adopted daughter Lucy. Lucy and I have always believed we were destined to be mother and daughter. It just took us a while to find each other. I hope you enjoy Lucy’s story. I enjoyed writing it. Adrian, Lucy and Paula are all young adults now. Adrian went away to study at university and then returned home. Lucy and Paula went to local colleges and university.

Tilly, aged 14, is very angry with her parents. Her step-father, Dave, abuses her mother, but she won’t leave him. Unable to cope with their fighting any longer and fearing for her own safety Tilly puts herself into foster care. She arrives at experienced foster carer, Cathy’s home with a cut on her face from getting in the way of another fight. Having read all of Cathy Glass' books, I had high expectations of this book, and they were fulfilled! I recommend this book to anybody." Wonderfully written, not only a great author but clearly such a caring person. I think about fostering. Cathy doesn’t sugar-coat it and shows how hard and frustrating it can be…" An easy 5 star for me along with the vast majority of Cathy’s other books. I love her writing style, usually I don’t like descriptive writing but I feel with this being non-fiction it kind of works better?

Andrew Lownie Literary Agency :: Book :: Will You Love Me

It's a family drama, and some people would probably describe it as "gritty". It's not the kind of thing I would ever choose to read for pleasure, but many people do, and for them this would probably be a treat. Cathy's books always give a great insight into fostering and everything involved that most people aren't aware of. However sometimes she does state things unnecessarily, because everyone already knows, such as the fact that pregnant women urgently need the toilet... There was also a lot of bitter comments about her ex John in this one, but that's not really a bad thing #drama Already looking forward to your next book. I am reading your Lisa Stone books at the moment and enjoying them..." As soon as I get a book by Cathy Glass I have to read it straight away… not only an author but a wonderful and very caring lady…" Amazing book as always from Cathy, can't wait for the next! Have read every single one of her books!"

As usual this is a very engaging read which gives insight into the range of responsibilities that are part of being a foster parent. Not only is Cathy caring for the child she also takes on a key role in the broader dynamics of the family. I'm sure fans of Cathy Glass's work will love this book, which is based on her experiences of many years as a carer for "looked after children". I was obliged to read it for my work.

I've just had to give up on a book of which I had high expectations so needed a replacement to settle me and Cathy Glass books are consistently good quality. Lucy was born to a single parent who had herself been abused and neglected for most of her childhood. Lucy’s mother couldn’t cope with a baby and Lucy was neglected right from the start. Despite concerns being raised by her teachers and other adults Lucy wasn’t taken into permanent foster care until she was eight years old. But even then her problems weren’t over. As she was moved from one foster home to another she became increasingly upset and angry. The eleventh memoir and latest title from the internationally bestselling author and foster carer Cathy Glass. This book tells the true story of Cathy’s adopted daughter Lucy. Foster carers rarely get the praise they deserve, but Cathy Glass's book should change all that.****' Cathy has been a foster parent for many years, and a very patient understanding one. Her usual foster children have some very upsetting things to deal with and this was the case of this 14 year old teenager Tilly. She loves her mum and worries about her.

It's always a very grounding experience to read CG's sensible approach to the difficulties that life throws at everyone (those permanently in her life as well as those she cares for temporarily). She has strong morals which she is unafraid to share but always considers the sensitivities of others around her. Whilst she is clear about her views she would never hurt anyone by speaking inappropriately. That doesn't stop her being clear and straightforward. I read A Terrible Secret in two sittings. Couldn’t put it down. Andrew Lownie Literary Agency :: Book :: A Terrible Secret

Anyway, this book tells the story of Tilly who is 14 and has requested to go into care as she can no longer live with her mother and step-father. Her SF is abusive towards her mother, manipulative and cruel. Tilly can't put up with it anymore and goes to social services and demands to live elsewhere. In the other books I'd read, Cathy's own children were a lot younger and it was nice to read about them as adults and be updated on their lives. Having read all of Cathy Glass’ books, I had high expectations of this book, and they were fulfilled! I recommend this book to anybody. This is the story of my adopted daughter, Lucy, who came to me as a foster child and stayed for good.Fantastic book. Sad, but a story that must be told. I was gripped right from the beginning. I would definitely recommend this book. Nice keeping up to date with Cathy and her lovely family." Couldn't put the book down! I love Cathy Glass' work and this was no different. A really personal memoir and all the more touching as Lucy features in other books too." Loved it! I read this in couple of sittings, really hard to put down, fantastic read, well done Cathy and congratulations…" Couldn’t put the book down! I love Cathy Glass’ work and this was no different.
