In the US, though Mother's Day, was founded by a woman called Anna Jarvis in 1908 to honour mothers and holds no religious ties. Jarvis' mother had wanted to see the establishment of such a holiday in the US, and after her mother's death, she led the movement for the commemoration. The campaign for a national observance was started in 1908 by West Virginia activist, Anna Jarvis, who campaigned for a holiday in honour of her mother, who was a community activist.
