Description

Even the game's approach to multiplayer did its best to spell out as little as possible, pairing players together without the usual indicators of online play and minimizing their communications. There was a button they could use to make their character chirp, useful for calling attention to an area or letting players know where each other is, but that was about it. There were no user names (until the end credits), no matchmaking lobbies, and no chat functionality, voice or text. Journey's mountain gives players a destination throughout the game I adore it. And look forward to another playthrough when I next can, I always hope I find someone that looks like they need the trophies so I can help. Meet companions everywhere in the game, even where it is normally impossible to do so. Journey – review | Games | The Guardian

I think it’s fair to say that the state-of-the-art console first-person shooter didn’t really hit its stride as a genre until the PS3 and the seventh generation of consoles. Journey: Awards & Recognition". Thatgamecompany. Archived from the original on January 16, 2013 . Retrieved June 27, 2012. Masterpiece. My favourite ever online experience. I played for about two hours with a stranger I never spoke to, never saw their face, but had an emotional connection by the end. Will never forget it. Even worse: there is no guidance, no helpful hints to bail you out: you have to find out everything by yourself and make your way through the what seems like an endless desert. After ten years, I feel very grateful for what happened," Chen says. "It's also strange because we're growing the company and I interview people and they tell me, 'I played Journey when I was 13 years old!'Thought it was excellent - didn't resonate as much as I wanted it to but to be honest, I am not sure I 'got' it first time through. That said, I will give it another go at some point. Also one of the hardest games to explain ever. The multiplayer component of Journey was designed to facilitate cooperation between players without forcing it, and without allowing competition. [14] It is intended to allow the players to feel a connection to other people through exploring with them, rather than talking to them or fighting them. [12] The plan was "to create a game where people felt they are connected with each other, to show the positive side of humanity in them". [14] The developers felt the focus on caring about the other player would be diluted by too many game elements, such as additional goals or tasks, as players would focus on those and "ignore" the other player. [14] They also felt having text or voice communication or showing usernames would allow players' biases and preconceptions to come between them and the other player. Honestly, though, I didn't enjoy this game HALF as much as most of you seem to. It was confusing for the entire duration of the experience, never being sure where to go or what (nevermind HOW) to do. Some of the people I came across lead, others followed, and one just sat there (convieniently earning me the Reflection Trophy, at least). I'd say I bonded most (inasmuch as it could be done in this game) with the one I spent most of the latter half of the game with...but it still hardly matters now, does it?Best Song in a Game". Games like Journey show what the videogame medium is truly capable of; if only more developers would have the courage of abandoning the 'videogame style' train of thought when making their software, we would have more games like Journey, Heavy Rain, Flower, etc.

Playing solo i found it somewhat interesting for a while. I was starting to lose interest fast and then came to a place i kept failing and could not advance. My play of Journey ended there as i realized i did not care if i advanced or not and what the ending may be. Gallagher, James (March 13, 2012). "PlayStation Home: Every Journey Starts From Home".
