Foreman – In this version of the game, players are dealt 2 instruction cards during setup. Players use these cards if they do not want to carry out an instruction card they’ve drawn. As an extra rule, players must also place any workers on the highest girder of the chosen colour. Components are great and support the theme well. Plus dungeons & dragons and aquariums, and all. Men at work was designed by rita modi and illustrated by chris quilliams and bernard bittler. Men at work includes 3 gaming modules to add loads of replayability to the game, as well as wooden components housed within a well designed insert for easy set up. Before long, the steel girders reach dizzying heights. Fearlessly, the workers carry on, with nothing more than hardhats to protect them. The danger of collapse hangs over everything - so just make sure that nothing happens! You also have to impress Rita, the boss, if you want to be Worker of the Month. There's a lot to do, so let's get going! In Men at Work instruction cards are double sided. When drawn, players will turn them over to reveal instructions they must complete. The top of the draw pile will dictate which instruction you have to follow. Each card will have you placing a girder or a worker. It sounds easy but believe me it’s not.

I love dexterity games and I’m always up for playing one. I think the reason being is I feel like I have my own fate in my hands, and that I have a sense of control. My sense of control usually fades when things don’t go as planned, but when it does, it does feel rewarding. In either case, I usually have lots of fun with them, even if I don’t win which happens more times than not. My only real issue with Men at Work is the player elimination mechanic. For the 2-player game, player elimination is not an issue but at the 3-5-player count, having someone sit out seems like a mistake to me. This does tend to speed up the game, but I’ve never been a fan having players sit out. Games are a communal experience for my group and player elimination goes against that. Final Thoughts: You’d think that this leniency benefits all players equally. However, it benefits more experienced and better players than anyone else. As often they’re able to stretch out each strike, decreasing the chance they’ll be eliminated before the shaky-hand players. Players who reach the required number of awards will be declared the winner. This number is dependent on the number of players: If you're hunting for the best board game gifts of 2023, then look no further! I guess there are only so many accidents you can cause before you’re finally fired. Variants While other construction games have you building tall structures, like Jenga, or The Fuzzies. Men at Work has them apple bottom jeans, and boots with fur, and keeps it low, low, low…

Awards are earned by placing your materials or workers at the structures highest point. This rule causes chaos as everyone starts building higher and higher. This leads to plenty of accidents and safety certificates being taken away. There’s Been an Accident David Norris on Ethnos may look bland, but it’s one of my favourites Thanks Anton. No double thank you! It was on your… Anonymous on 10 Halloween board games perfect for the big night Interesting that you chose Horrified as I got the… As the structure builds, placing your pieces becomes increasingly difficult. Your nerves will be tested, as will the steadiness of your hand. Final Thoughts on Men at Work However, if you are someone who struggles with dexterity games this may not be your cup of tea. Mainly because, the whole game is about having a steady hand and piece placement.Great online store for board games. They always arrive perfectly and undamaged which is important to me. Again, I enjoy dexterity games of all types and Men at Work is easy to learn and fast to the table. The components included are not only aesthetically pleasing and detailed but really do an excellent job of supporting the construction theme. My group and I were big fans of the variant rules which really help enhance the base rules but also add to the replay value. Men at Work is a brilliant fun dexterity game with great wooden components that fit perfectly their designated trays within the box. This is a 2-5 player game that works well at all player counts. It’s fun for whoever plays, whether that be children and family, new, or regular gamers.

The next player then has to use the safety hook to remove all the fallen pieces. Once they have done this they can continue with their turn. However, if the player causes an accident during a clean-up operation, they also lose a certificate and forfeit their turn.Dexterity games are often dismissed as being activities more than they are games, but Men at Work proves that notion doesn’t always apply. If you like to keep a small, finely curated collection of games, then Men at Work might fit that perfect niche of a dexterity game like it did for me. If you already have a dexterity game you really like and you don’t play it that often, Men at Work might not have enough there to completely change your stance on the genre. If you can get a group of 3-5 players together regularly enough, it’s probably worth it. If you do most of your gaming with 2 players, there might not be enough here for you. Personally, I just have too many other 2-player games I’d recommend before Men at Work. The precarious nature of the game is also one of its minor shortcomings, as the gentlest nudge of the table could send everything toppling. You need a flat, steady surface that can withstand a bit of bumping. I found the best way to play is around a coffee table. There’s a bit more of a performance element to being the only person to stand up and move around the table as you find the perfect place to slot in your piece, but it just amplifies the stakes and adds to the stability and integrity of the game. The youngest player is given the safety hook starting piece and draws the first card. Time to Build To make things even crazier you can combine all 3 of these variants if you want a much more chaotic experience.
