The structure affirmative sentence is N1はN2ですit means N1 is N2. In here N1 and N2 are nouns, and particle is は, N1 is the theme or also subject of a sentence, while N2 is the information that the writer or speaker would like to present about the subject. The particle は is the word mark the end of the subject. In Japanese there are some particle use to recognized subject and object. Although the overall structure is very similar for both series, one of the main differences for the textbooks is that the instructions are given in English for Genki while there is no English featured in the main textbook for Minna no Nihongo (the translation can be found in a separate workbook). Genki also tends to feature more images in its textbook compared to Minna no Nihongo. The series is divided into two levels, Shokyu (Beginner) and Chukyu (Intermediate). Each level is then divided into two further sub-levels with their associated textbooks and workbooks, Shokyu 1& Shokyu 2 and Chukyu 1& Chukyu 2. Numerous external resources can be utilized along with Minna no Nihongo to enhance the learning experience. For instance, the Tofugu Review offers an insightful analysis of the textbook series and suggests additional materials to complement its contents. This reviewer highlights the “two-book system,” which consists of a main all-Japanese textbook and a supplementary grammar book in English to help learners understand complex concepts. I totally agree. I started with Genki but moved onto MNN and have found it a far better experience. Perhaps that’s just because I prefer slightly dryer, more “textbook-y” textbooks. That being said if you’re going to go down the MNN route the workbooks are a must, as in all of them! Kanji: Students are gradually exposed to kanji, the more advanced part of the Japanese writing system, with each program level emphasizing key characters essential for reading comprehension.

The main textbook also includes listening comprehension exercises that help improve a learner’s understanding of spoken Japanese. These exercises are essential for preparing students for the listening section of the JLPT exams. The Minna no Nihongo series does not use romaji in its texts and emphasizes learning the proper writing and reading system of hiragana, katakana, and kanji.Honsatsu: In addition to the Shokyu and Chukyu textbooks, Minna no Nihongo offers a supplementary series called Honsatsu. These books are designed for learners who want to extend their Japanese skills beyond the Intermediate level. Honsatsu focuses on refining proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing by covering a wider range of vocabulary and grammar points.
