It is very clever real-time processing which certainly does have an immediate effect on the HDR10 picture quality; this is not accurate to the creator's intent, but it is effective and will win many fans. One other very interesting aspect that's apparently enabled by the Alpha 9 Gen 5 is support for Dolby's new Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Detail format. There is also support for 4K/120, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Nvidia G-Sync and AMD Freesync, along with ALLM (Automatic Low Latency Mode), plus there is the game optimiser menu and features bar which should give you complete control over your gaming experience. Input lag also measures in at 12.9ms with 4K 60, and 9.2ms when using the Input Delay Boost option. You can half these figures when feeding the panel a 120Hz signal. The C2, like all LG OLEDs, is an excellent option for gamers. With a Blu-ray of Thor: The Dark World, it’s as if I’m watching a 4K version of the film. No noise, no blurriness or jagged edges; just terrific levels of fine detail in costumes and faces, natural colours, a clean-looking image, and impressive levels of sharpness. Standard mode is better, since it ditches processing for a more natural and smoother tone, while Cinema is best for films, finding more energy and applying processing to create depth. The width of the soundstage with AI Sound Pro is appreciated, as is the focus on dialogue, but there’s sibilance to speech when watching daytime shows such as The Bidding Room and The Chase. The performance can vary when streaming content, which seems to fare better overall.
