As a writer myself, I know how it is to write female characters. It is hard. I’m all for twisted characters. They can start as an horrible ass, but they will grow in the story and learn something. Ryen doesn’t. She doesn’t change at all. She’s just a spoiled brat bully surrounded by terrible friends. If someone changed, this is Misha, who changed to fit what she wanted of a guy and became a bully himself. Punk 57 Book Review: How Ridiculous It All Feels Ten smiles, and Manny seems to relax a little. He doesn’t answer, but I’ll call him later. He doesn’t trust us, and I don’t want to push him right now. Everyone gets busy eating. J.D. steals food off everyone’s trays, and I take out my phone and go to text Misha. I hope he doesn’t mind getting asked to prom. But then I think better of it and go to Google to find his Facebook. I’ve read so much about his life, and now I’d like to see it, I think. I’m guessing the last thing he wants to talk about is prom, but I’d like to put it out there sooner rather than later for him to think about at least. But as I type in Misha Lare Grayson into the search engine and scroll to find what I need, I’m suddenly lost in more information than I can handle. My stomach sinks, and my heart races. Oh, my God. I stare at her words again, running over the sentence in my head. When she removes her make-up, taking off her brave face for the day…

This book is about the difference between being accepted by the "acceptable" people in your life/school/society and having the courage to accept yourself no matter the consequences. It's also about honesty and friendship and luuuuuurve. Did you enjoy Penelope Douglas’s writing in Punk 57? If so, you should read another one of her books that couldn’t put down – Birthday Girl.Slipping the paper into my glove box, among a few other of my favorites of Ryen’s letters, I take my pen, hovering it over the notepad that sits on my lap. Also some of the conflict in the book might be a little contrived/cliche/predictable. Didn't bother me in this circumstance, but might bother others. There is just something meaty about her characters and her writing that make her books oh so chomp-able. So, I figured I should start with the good part before starting absolutely bashing a book. Before I started, I thought about myself: “focus, Isadora, you must have seen SOMETHING good at least.” So, I came up with this list, and I’ll analyze it topic by topic: I didn't hate this book. I was afraid I would, but I didn't. Bar a few typos, it was fairly well written and had an interesting story. As much as I gripe, I must admit that I wasn't bored while reading it. It also has a Colleen Hoover-esque title whose meaning becomes clear at some point in the story, which is cool. Like Colleen Hoover, I think this author is capable of writing something some day that I will really enjoy. I like dark fiction, and I like suspense novels. She just needs to fine-tune the way she writes her heroes and sex scenes, and then we'll be golden.

But I keep my arms crossed and narrow my eyes on her. She’s seriously going to keep up with this charade? asks. It’s Saturday night, so it’s possible. But… “Roofers will be here tomorrow to fix the leaks,” I explain. “Teachers are being asked to stay out of the building for safety.” I look around at all of them. “You know what to do?” “Yep.” “Absolutely.” “Ready.” Okay, then. “Let’s go.”

The letter exchanges continued long past just the one year, but eventually, they had been sending letters for a whopping 7 years. The only way to go on speaking to a person for seven years without having seen them at all is by setting up a few rules: they can’t see each other by any circumstances. This story starts off on a sweet note as Lily jots some of her favorite lyrics on her desk. To her surprise, the next day, the lyrics have been continued, and there’s a note on her desk. So just to set the record straight from our last argument, Kylo Ren is NOT a baby. You understand? He’s young, impulsive, and he’s related to Anakin and Luke Skywalker. Of course he whines! How is this a surprise? And he’ll redeem himself. I’ll bet you on it. Name your price. Alright, I gotta go. But yes, to answer your question, that lyric you sent me last time sounds great. Go with it, and I can’t wait to read the whole song. Disgusting. Wrong. The high school drama is so ridiculous. They’re deciding who they’re going to prom with. And here I thought they would be on a world tour with a band. No, they have to sit their exams still and ask mommy and daddy for money to go to the cinema on the weekend.
