About this deal

The Wildling Sisters” is the second stand alone novel and was released in 2017. One summer, four sisters. A lifetime of secrets. Eve Chase is a stunning and meticulous writer and The Birdcage - like all her novels - is as spellbinding in its prose, as it is in its plot and the expertly crafted mystery at its heart. A very special novel -- Katy Regan, author of Little Big Man Thank you to G.P. Putnam's Sons for the free electronic copy of this novel and for giving me the opportunity to provide an honest review. Eve Chase never disappoints. The far west of Cornwall is evoked in all its wild and mystical glory in this lyrical and propulsive family drama about three sisters whose lives have been overshadowed by a tragedy on the day of the 1999 eclipse. Chase conjures up a bohemian, artistic world filled with damaged daughters and their charismatic, largely absent and narcissistic father. Immersive, tense and ultimately redemptive, while I was reading, it held me completely in its grip.”–Sarah Vaughan, author of Little Disasters It feels strange to describe a thriller about reconciling past sins as being heartwarming, but The Birdcage somehow manages to be suspenseful while at the same time remaining sensitive toward and generous to its troubled, flawed characters. Here’s Flora reflecting on the summer of 1999, and how it changed the trajectory of her once seemingly limitless life:

Eve Chase - ESCAPE WITH AN EVE CHASE Eve Chase - ESCAPE WITH AN EVE CHASE

The complex dynamics that fuel sisterly love but ignite rivalry set the emotional tone for British author Eve Chase’s irresistibly suspenseful drama, The Birdcage…Chase navigates the relationships Flora, Kat and Lauren have with each other and with their father with masterful strokes, offering enticing, layered glimpses into their early years…The eerie, ethereal imagery in The Birdcage [will] linger with readers long after they part ways with the Finch family.”— Shelf Awareness An enticing, chilling plot, captivating characters and prose beautiful enough to totally lose yourself in * Heat * The story shifts to the present day, and we meet Jon and Lorna, who are madly in love and looking for a wedding venue. Surprisingly enough, an old Cornwall house grabs Lorna’s attention, not only because she adores old houses but also because she got some memories of having toured the home with her mother, who recently died. Upon seeing the house, her heart settles for it as her ideal wedding venue despite her fiancé’s skepticism. I've read and adored all of Eve Chase's books. Each has intriguing, strong female characters and good men too. She delves into women's lives and their relationships, especially those of mothers and their daughters and sisters and the destructive secrets that families carry. In each book prior to this one, I've identified with and rooted for the women. Eve studied English Literature at Manchester University and went on to do a post-graduate in journalism. She once edited a street fashion magazine, called Scene (which is no longer on the scene, or even in existence) and wrote for many publications included Punch, InStyle, Dazed and Confused, Red, Marie-Claire, You, and national newspapers. The "twist" was also very disappointing. I'm pretty sure I actually rolled my eyes, not because it was that predictable but just because I was so uninvested in the characters or story. I think it was the writing that made it hard to connect; it was flowery where it didn't need to be and detached where it could've had more spunk. What I found most frustrating about this book is that there were 3 main characters and two of them were completely aware of all the details around the "mystery" the reader was supposed to figure out. I guess we were supposed to try to solve things with the third main character but it was just annoying.

Sublime writing, secrets, lovable characters I didn't want to leave, and a ripping plot twist that kept me guessing. An absolute jewel of a book Dinah Jefferies, bestselling author of The Tuscan Contessa A birdcage has long been a metaphor for something pretty trapped behind bars. In British author Eve Chase’s latest novel The Birdcage, three pretty things are trapped together, and the result isn’t… pretty. There are some terrible secrets that will be revealed. Someone is watching the house and knows what they did.I am a huge fan of Eve Chase, whose books always focus on the relationship between sisters. This book started off very slow due to little dialogue and just the inner thoughts of the characters. The pace sped up around 50%, when I correctly guessed the twist. Regardless of knowing how it would end, I enjoyed Chase’s message and the creepy birds! However Jesse finds herself at odds with her fifteen year old stepdaughter, being increasingly isolated in their sprawling new home, and haunted by the odd rumors which surround this manor. One of the most enthralling novelists of the moment. This is the most beautiful book you will read this year With threatening anonymous notes, winter storms, and stifled memories, this book kept me thoroughly invested throughout. I did guess the 'big' secret, but that didn't mar my enjoyment of the reveal one iota. Just like Delia Owens gives vivid descriptions of the forest such that it almost becomes a character in her novel Where the Crawdads Sing, Eve Chase does give vivid descriptions of the sights, sounds, animals, and textures making the forest come alive in its own right.
